Gerry Smith died yesterday
Gerry Smith, 2029 Ohio, died of an apparent heart attack while driving with her husband 30 miles east of Cheyenne, Wyo., Sunday afternoon.
Her husband, Cecil Smith, was reportedly asleep when the accident occurred.
An autopsy was scheduled for today.
The Smiths were returning to Augusta from Washington.

Jose Arredondo died Sunday
Jose Arredondo, 65, 1239 Hooper, died Sunday at his home.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. The rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Monsignor Charles F. Walsh will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
He was born March 19, 1919 in Pueblo, Mexico, to Candelario and Fransica Jimenz Arredondo.
He married Mary Valadez Sept. 13, 1947 in El Dorado. She survives.
He was a retired maintenance person for the Santa Fe Railway.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Other survivors include sons, Joe Jr., John, both of Augusta; daughters, Delores Burrows of Towanda; half brothers, Jesse, Toney, both of Fontana, Calif.; sister, Rosa Gallegos of Chicago, Ill., and five grandchildren.

Rites today
for E.J. Ricke
Edward J. Ricke, 71, Wichita, an employee of Knebler Construction Co., died Oct. 4 at Wesley Medical Center.
His service was at 10 a.m. today at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Wichita. Father Wilford Lowery officiated and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association of Kansas.
He was born June 8, 1914 in Sharon to William J. and Josephine Bauer Ricke.
He married Lucille Ternes. She survives.
Other survivors include sons, David and Dale, both of Wichita; a brother, Irvin of Attica, and three grandchildren.

Pete Larson dies at 81
Irvin “Pete” Larson, 81, Bums, father of Cordell Larson of Augusta, died Friday.
His service was at 10 a.m. today at the Burns United Methodist Church. Rev. Tom Bandy officiated and burial was in the Bums cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Arthritis Foundation.
He was born Dec. 19, 1902 near Burns to Jacob and Anine Jorgensen Larson.
He married Meryl Ziebell.
He was an electrician and gas station operator.
Other survivors include his wife, Meryl Larson of the home; a daughter, Rose Decker of Katy, Texas; a brother, Robert of Arvada, Colo., and five grandchildren.
The Baker Funeral Home in Peabody was in charge of arrangements.

Ex-Augustan died Sunday
Vera Ford, 85, Wichita, formerly of Augusta, died there Sunday at the Wichita Care Center.
There will be an entombment in the mausoleum at 2:30 p.m. today in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Lewis D. Fowler will officiate.
She was born Feb. 7, 1899 in Augusta to Richard Ambrose and Allie Betts Marshall.
She married Rex Ford. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Mildred Lewis of San Marcos, Texas.

Joseph Balling died Sunday
Joseph D. Balling, 76, Route 3, died Sunday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His service will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Downing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. Father Max Brewington will officiate and burial will be in the Calvery Cemetery in Wichita.
He was born Dec. 25, 1907 in Temple, Texas, to Royal and Greeta Whitlock Balling.
He married Margaret Schoenborn. She survives.
He was a retired foreman at Beech Aircraft Corp. in Wichita.
Other survivors include a daughter, Caryl Hess of Wichita; brother, James; sister, Betty Wehling, both of Denver, Colo., and two grandchildren.
