Stepfather dies at 82
Ray L. Hataway, 82, Parsons, stepfather of Martha L. Watts of Augusta, died Monday.
His service was at 10:30 a.m. today at the Burris-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Rev. Nancy Taylor officiated and burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons.
A memorial has been established with the Parsons First Christian Church.
He was born March 29, 1902 in Ladoma, Texas to Alvin Acy and Edna Earl Strickland Hataway.
He married Alberta Daniels. She preceded him in death. He married Edith Parsons Nov. 1, 1939 and she preceded him in death Nov. 18, 1972. Oct. 6, 1974, he married Lota M. Kephart. She preceded him in death Dec. 24, 1979.
He was a retired railroad carman and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Car Men, a 60-year member of the Masons and the First Christian Church there.
Other survivors include a son, Raymond B. of Petaluma, Calif.; stepsons, Don L. Maupin of Parsons, Roy Kephart, Joe Kephart, both of Thayer, Ned Kephart of Overland Park; stepdaughters, Opal May Bays of Lenexa, Mary L. Reynolds of Oklahoma City, Okla.; brothers, Clayton W. of Mountain Home, Ark., James S. of Edmond, Okla., Andy A. of Parsons; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Rites Friday
for ex-Augustan
Dorothy E. Simmons, 54, Severance, formerly of Augusta, died Tuesday morning at her home.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Highland Mortuary Chapel in Highland. Rev. Gene Riley will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, near Severance.
A memorial has been established with the University of Kansas Medical Center Heart Fund.
She was born Feb. 1930 in Huron to John and Katie Roland.
She married Earl Simmons March 11, 1947 in Atchison. He survives.
The Simmons had lived in Augusta before moving to Severance. She worked at the Collier Manor Nursing Home in Hiawatha and was a member of the Severance Christian Church and the VFW Auxiliary there.
Other survivors include sons, Gary Simmons of Troy, Michael Simmons of Atchison, Earl Simmons Jr. of Norco, Calif.; daughters, Terry Lambert of Norco, Marilyn K. Adkins of Troy, Debora Dodge of Severance; brothers, John Roland of Denton, Philip of Severance and Bill of Troy; sisters, Mary Blanton of Severance, Nina Carter of Dabey, Neb., Kathryn Wilcox of Augusta; Johanna Bryon of Chicago, Ill., and Phyllis Higley of Winchester, and nine grandchildren. _

Wentz memorial
A memorial has been established in the name of Rachel Ashly Wentz for the perinatal unit at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Memorial contributions may be sent to Wesley Medical Endowment Foundation, in memory of Rachel Ashly Wentz, 3306 E. Central, Wichita, Kan., 67208.

Margaret Grubb dies in Douglass
Margaret A. Grubb, 81, Douglass, died Saturday at the Douglass Nursing Center.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Douglass Christian Church. Rev. Jim Lorenson will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation.
She was born Sept. 28, 1903 in Sedgwick County to Enos D. and Cora E. Dunkin Ferguson.
She married Thurston Grubb Oct. 11, 1926 in Fort Worth, Texas. He survives.
She was a retired deputy register of deeds for Butler County.
She was a 60-year member of the Woodbine Chapter 95 Order of the Eastern Star.
Other survivors include a daughter, Shirley McKee of Cleburne, Texas; brother, Enos Ferguson of Banning, Calif.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Ex-Augustan dies at 74
Lloyd Vernon Johnson, 74, Wichita, formerly of Augusta, died Sunday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Fair-view Cemetery in Augusta. Pastor Gary Gray will officiate.
He was born Nov. 23, 1909 in Selman, Okla., to Thomas and Clema Pierce Johnson.
He married Thelma Pearl Craig. She preceded him in death.
He was a retired maintenance man.
Survivors include two sons, Gilbert Johnson of Wichita and Clifford Johnson of Sunnymead, Calif.; two brothers, Wilbur of Wichita and Chester of Vica, Okla.; a sister, Inez Johnson of Buffalo, Okla., and two grandchildren.
Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
