George A. Howrey service Friday
George A. Howrey, 90, Douglass, died Tuesday at the Douglass Nursing Center.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the High Prairie Cemetery, Altoona, with Rev. Keith Sheppard officiating. The Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.
Howrey was born April 26, 1894, in Mitchell, S.D., and had moved to Douglass from Benedict, Kan., in 1970. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Christ, Douglass.
His first wife, Mabeline, died in 1970. His second wife, Florence, died in 1979.
He is survived by a son, Richard, Mount Hope; five daughters, Mercedes Anderson, Highlandville, Mo.; Bessie Jennings, Walnut Creek, Calif.; Maizie Gavin, Tehachapi, Calif.; Dorothy McCoy, Burbank, Calif.; and Margaret Sandhoff, Newport Beach, Calif.; 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and six great-greatgrandchildren.

A.J. Chiaro dies in Colorado
A.J. Chiaro, 89, Colorado Springs, Colo., father of Augustan Don Chiaro, died Tuesday.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Colorado Springs. Nolan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Other survivors are two sons, Richard of Pocatello, Idaho, and James of Denver and one daughter, Alice Dickens of Springfield, Mo.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. James School in Augusta.

Anita Riggs dies at 62
Anita Katherine Riggs, 62, Belleville, formerly of Augusta, died Friday at the Heartland Care Center.
Her graveside service was at 1 p.m. today. Rev. Frank Miller officiated and burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born April 10, 1922 in El Dorado to James J. and Margaret J. Cunningham Riggs.
Survivors include a brother, James B. Riggs, and sisters, Evelyn Patten and Goldie McKenzie, all of Augusta.
The Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carmen Galyean dies at AMCI
Carmen Galyean, 82, 2320 Crest, died Sunday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks will officiate.
Other services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill. Burial will be in the LaKeview Memorial Gardens there.
She was born March 5, 1902 in East St. Louis, Ill., to George W. and Anna Cunningham Ensminger.
She married Edwin Beadle who preceded her in death in 1927. She married George R. Galyean who preceded her in death in 1973.
She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
Survivors include a son, Clifford Beadle of East Greenwich, R.I.; a daughter-in-law, Ann Beadle of Augusta; a sister, George Verbeck; and a sister-in-law, Grace Ensminger of Belleville, Ill.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a niece, Suzanne Thigpen of Charlotte, N.C.
Clinton Beadle, a son, preceded her in death in 1979.
An infant son preceded her in death in 1927.

Mother dies in Minnesota
Emma Kirkwood, mother of Robert Kirkwood of Augusta, died Saturday in Lake City, Minn.
Her services will be Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake City, Minn.
She is also survived by two other sons; two daughters, 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Billy F. Smith dies in Wichita
Billy Francis Smith, 66, 307 Broadway, died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 18, 1918 in Wichita to James C. and Ollie E. Roundtree Smith.
He married M. Maxine Dennett in Wichita Feb. 17, 1941. She survives.
He was a retired Kansas Turpkike employee. He service with the U.S. Coast Guard dur-
ing World War II and was a member of the El Dorado V.F.W.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Other survivors include sons, David of Littleton, Colo., and Mike of Augusta; a daughter, Sandra Payton of Augusta; grandchildren, Kurt and Aaron Payton and Lance, Andy and Mat Smith.
