Melvin Trabue dies at 69
Melvin George Trabue, 69, rural Augusta, died Monday.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Christopher’s Episcopal in Wichita. Rev. Gene Williams will officiate. Graveside services will at 3 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute.
He was born Oct. 16, 1915 in Kansas to Roy and Juanita George Trabue.
He married June Hendricks.
She survives.
He was a retired mobile home dealer and rancher.
Other survivors include a son, Nicholas of Wichita; brothers,
Bill of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his mother, Juanita of Nappa, Calif., and a sister, Margie Oxford. ___

Ex-Augustan dies at 89
Opal Reed, 89, Stillwater, Okla., formerly of Augusta, died there Sunday.
Her service was at 4 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. Rev. Barbara Sherer officiated and burial was at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater.
She was born Nov. 25, 1894 in Augusta to William and Genevra Brooks Skaer.
She married Dr. S.L. Reed Aug. 1,1922. He preceded her in death in 1969.
She was a home economics instructor.
Survivors include a daughter, Genevra Counihan of Concord, Mass., and four grandchildren.
Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater, Okla., was in charge of arrangements.

Carl Michael dies at 75
Carl Michael, 75, 351 Grand, died yesterday at Halstead Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. Rev. Jon Grissom will officiate and burial will be in the Bayard Cemetery in Deer Creek, Okla.
He was born July 7, 1909 in Deer Creek to Charles and Roberta Ford Michael.
He married Leona Reed Dec. 6, 1931 in Wellington. She survives.
He earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Phillips University at Enid, Okla. He began teaching in Oklahoma. He moved with his family to Kansas in 1947. He came to Butler County in 1967 when he began his career as a special education teacher. He worked in that capacity until 1974.
Michael was a member of the First Chirstian Church, the Retired Teacher’s Association and the Kiwanis Club. He was a charter member of Terramara Inc. in El Dorado.
Other survivors include a son, James R. Michael of London, England; a daughter, Joyce Schneider of Wichita; brothers, Frank of Tonkawa, Okla., and John of New Iberia, La., and two grandsons, Jeff and Keith Schneider of Wichita.

James Stewart Jr. dies at AMCI
James W. Stewart Jr., 69, 1021 Dearborn, died Friday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
A memorial service was at 11 a.m. today at the First Southern Baptist Church. Rev. George Goudie officiated and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the AMCI Long Term Care Unit.
He was born Nov. 8, 1915 in Wichita to James William and Mae Remmers Stewart.
He married Ethel Doris Berry. She survives.
He served in the military during World War II.
He was a Beech Aircraft Co. employee.
Other survivors include daughters, Retta Jo Christy of Wichita and Jay Ann Custer of Copan, Okla.; a sister, Mary Bea Bush of Hayward, Calif.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lucille Dodson rites tomorrow
Mary Lucille Dodson, 69, Wichita, sister-in-law of Arthur Dodson of Augusta, died Friday at St. Francis Regional Center in Wichita.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the DeVorss Mortuary Chapel in Wichita. Pastor Tim Hutabarat will officiate and burial will be in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
She was born May 11, 1915 in Delwein, Iowa to Dana and Carrie Viola Gardner Field.
She married Herschael Dodson May 30, 1931 in Enid, Okla. He survives.
Other surviviors include a son, Gene of Seaside, Calif.; a daughter, Florence Brandon of Wichita; a brother, Dana Field of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Violet Zaloudek of Enid; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
