Rites pending for Hazel Herold
Hazel Herold, 88, of Eureka, mother of Tom Herold of Augusta, died this morning at the Eureka Medical Lodge.
Her funeral service is pending at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.

Mabel Hurley dies at 76
Mabel Elizabeth Hurley, 76, Wichita, mother of Dean Hurley of Augusta, died Tuesday at the Riverside Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Culbertson-Smith Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Donald Mitchell will officiate and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Oatville.
She was born March 8, 1908 in Quinlin, Okla., to William Henry and Callie Della George Sanders.
She married James H. Hurley. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She was a laundry worker for Kansas National Linen in Wichita before her retirement.
Survivors also include sons, Melvin Eugene Hurley, Richard W. Hurley, both of Wichita, and Donald Lee Hurley and Ronald D. Hurley, both of Climax; brother, Bud Sanders of Woodward, Okla.; sisters, Ruby McAdoo and Ethel Wolcox, both of Woodward, Alma Hamilton of LaPuente, Calif., Rose Nolder of Liberal; 27 grandchildren including two grandsons that she raised, David James Hicks and Larry Dean Hicks, both of Wichita, and 25 great-grandchildren.

Brother dies at 67 in Hays
Chester C. Sims, 67, Plainville, brother of Maxine Lawrence and Ramel Hance, both of Augusta, died Monday at the Hadley Regional Medical Center in Hays.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mosher’s Funeral Home in Plainville. Rev, Russ Preston will officiate and burial will be in the Plainville Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Oct. 5, 1917 in Kansas City, Mo., to George and Sophia Liebenau Sims.
He married Virginia Ensley Nov. 11, 1943 in Calsbad, N.M. She survives.
He was a roustabout in the oil fields.
Other survivors include sons, Dee of Garnett Don of Topeka and Dale of Plainville; daughters, Gay Laudick of Colo., and Rhonda Schmidt of Hays; another sister, Lorene Barber of Hays
and eight grandchildren.

Sister dies at 77 in Sharon Springs
Fern Chaney, 77, Sharon Springs, sister of Howard Schwartz of Augusta, was found dead in her home Sunday.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sharon Springs Methodist Church. Rev. Loren Marler will officiate and burial will be in the city cemetery.
The Koons Funeral Home at Sharon Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Vina Barton dies in Eureka
Vina Barton, 98, Eureka, formerly of Augusta, died Saturday at the Greenwood County Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eureka. Rev. Gilbert Daniels will officiate and burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery there.
She was born Feb. 10, 1886 in Elwood, Ind., to John and Martha Nance Moore.
She married Winton L. Barton. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Wilson of Howard (formerly of Augusta); a sister,
Mary Stewart of Eureka; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Nancy J. Scott dies at 77
Nancy Jane Scott, 77, rural Rose Hill, died Sunday at her home.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Carl Fowler will officiate and burial will be in the Dunlap Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 5, 1907 in Dover, Okla., to Earnest and Rosa Duncan Lawyer.
She married Harold H. Scott Jan. 16, 1932 in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Survivors include a son Teddy W. Scott of Wichita; a daughter, Patsy A. Jones of Augusta; sisters, Laura Drurey and Opal Head, both of Talihina, Okla., and Lucille Angel of Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
