J.J. Flannagan’s rites were Saturday
Funeral services for Jacqueline J. Flannagan, 49, Douglass, were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Douglass.
She died Wednesday, Feb. 18, from injuries suffered in a two vehicle accident two miles south of Augusta on U.S. 77.
Pastor Kent Holcomb officiated at the Flannagan funeral. Graveside services will be at the Piedmont, S.D., cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Kidney Foundation of Kansas.
She was born Sept. 13, 1937 in Clarenda, Iowa, to Lloyd W. and Virginia Winden Perkins.
She married Thurman Donald “Mike” Flannagan in 1964 in Lincolon, Neb. He preceded her in death in January of 1986.
She was a retail manager at Service Merchandise at Town West Shopping Center in Wichita.
Survivors include a son, Larry of Piedmont, S.D.; brothers, Richard Perkins of Olathe and Bob Perkins of Russell; sisters, Carmen Little of Omaha, Neb., Pat Perkins of Sioux City, Iowa, Mary Perkins of San Diego, Calif., mother, Virginia Ridge of Omaha, and three grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Mortuary in Douglass was in charge of arrangements.
Morvin Wagner died Friday
Morvin W. Wagner, 76, Salina, brother of Doris Wilkins of Augusta, died Friday at a Salina hospital.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Salina. Rev. Howard Boswell officiated and burial was in the Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina.
A memorial has been established with the Hospice of Salina.
He was born March 28, 1910 in Concordia to Clyde and Irene Bartlett Wagner.
He married Trula Theobald May 27, 1934 in Marion. She survives.
Mr. Wagner was a retired salesman.
Other survivors include daughters, Barbara Roofe of Westminster, Calif., Beverly Boyer of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters, Mildred Johnson of Lyons, Gladys Hamel of Marysville, and three grandchildren.
Chapel Funeral Home in Salina was in charge of arrangements.
AHS student died Saturday
Robin Joy Briggs, 15, El Dorado, died Saturday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Four Square Gospel Church in El Dorado. Rev. Jim Hatfield will officiate and burial will be in the Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
She was born July 31, 1971 in Okinawa, Japan, to Wes and Jerrie Baird Briggs.
She enrolled at Augusta High School as a sophomore Jan. 20 and had been staying with Alice and Les Wedel of rural Augusta, according to school counselor Gail McKenzie.
“The kids were just getting to know her,” McKenzie said. “She was an average student. She was involved in music and journalism and was in the choir and on the yearbook staff.
“It seemed like she really had a lot going for her. This is real tragic.”
Survivors include her father, Wes Briggs; mother, Jerrie Wilson; brother, Wesley Briggs Jr.; sister, Ginger Briggs; grandparents, Wes and Dolores Briggs, all of El Dorado, and a great-grandmother, Cathleen Briggs of Elgin, Okla.

Samuel VanHorn Sr. died in Wichita
Samuel W. VanHorn Sr. 56, Douglass, died Saturday at the Veterans Administration in Wichita.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the National Cemetery in Leavenworth. Rev. Jack Conard will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sawin-Dyer Funeral Home in Atchison.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Sept. 6, 1930 in Atchison to Alfred and Mary Moore VanHorn.
He was a career military officer and rose to the rank of staff sergeant in the Army. He was stationed four years in Germany and served four tours in Korea and in Vietnam.
He graduated from Atchison High School in 1948. He graduated from Pratt College where he studied the applied sciences.
Survivors include a son, Samuel W. VanHorn Jr., of Atchison; a daughter, Julie King of Leavenworth; sisters, Viola Davis, Ingelwood, Calif.; Lena Conard of Rushville, Mo., Georgie Edwards of Douglass, Frances Roles of Atchison, Ruth Burge of Eastin and Katherene Killman of Daytona Beach, Fla., and four grandchildren.
Mable Leona Kern service Thursday
Mable Leona Kern, 92, Andover, great aunt of Gick R. Fleming of Leon, died yesterday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stockton, Kan., cemetery.
She was born Sept. 24, 1894 in Green Lake, Wis., to John Leo and Carrie Martha Rosebrook Priwer.
She married Fred Ernest Kern April 11, 1917 in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1961.
Other survivors include a niece, Imogene Gick Fleming of Derby, and a grand nephew, Brent D. Fleming of Atlanta.
The Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
