N.D. ‘Buck’ Barker died yesterday at 71
NormanD. “Buck” Barker, 71, Winfield, a former Douglass resident, died yesterday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial has been established with the Life Line Program at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
He was born Oct. 9, 1915 at Webb City, Mo., to Norman and Mary Effie Harmon Barker.
He married Nellie M. Lacy on May 14, 1938 in Winfield. She survives.
Mr. Barker attended schools in
Douglass and graduated from Douglass High School in 1932.
He owned the Barker Magneto Electric Company from 1944 to 1959. He later owned and operated the Barker Turkey Farm near Winfield. In 1962, he began working for the General Electric
Company. He was responsible for the organization and development of the GE Stockroom Facility at Strother Field south of Winfield. He worked in data processing and was a tool coordinator for GE until his retirement in 1978.
Other survivors include a son,
N.R. “Bob” Barker of Winfield; a daughter, Judy Evans of Winfield; brothers, Henry of Arkansas City, Jack of Lincoln,
Ark., and J.D. of Cain Hill, Ark.; sisters, Naomi Nichols of Tucson, Ariz., Phyllis Keim of Redlands, Calif., and Nancy Sullivan of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Miles Memorial Chapel in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.

Flora E. Holmes service Friday
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church for Flora Edna Holmes, 85, 1221 School.
Mrs. Holmes died Tuesday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
She was born Jan. 3, 1902 to Edward L. and Lydia Cody Miller.
She married Ronald G. Holmes on Sept. 30, 1958. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Iona Davenport of Augusta; stepson, George Holmes of Norwich; stepdaughters, Elaine Treimer of Danville, Calif., Ruth Ann King of Towanda and Pauline Draut of Wichita; a nephew, David Davenport of Amarillo, Texas, and nieces, Donna Paluch of Wichita, Jean Palmer and Winifred Carline, both of Boulder, Colo., Jane Remington of Colorado Springs, Colo.
The family requests no flowers. Mrs. Holmes donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. A memorial has been established with the church.

Samuel Zurbuchen died in California
Samuel Zurbuchen, 91, San Diego, Calif., formerly of Augusta, died Sunday at Rancho Bernardo Heights in San Diego.
Masonic graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends may call between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 30, 1896 in Alta Vista to Ernest and Susie Mueller Zurbuchen.
He married Gladys Ross on July 21, 1925. She survives.
He was a retired Federal Housing Administration employee in Kansas.
Other survivors include brothers, Frank of Halstead and Charles of Kansas City and sisters, Elizabeth Hunsinger of Hobbs, N.M., and Katie Hearting of Halstead.

James D. Anderson died Thursday at 68
James David Anderson, 68, Greenfield, Mo., father of Jamie G. Shoffner of Augusta, died Thursday.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was a retired sheet metal worker.
Other survivors include his wife, Daythel; sons, David Lee of Africa, Steven J. of England; daughter, Jodie K. Gray of Wichita; sister, Boots Hudspeth of Lockwood, Mo., and three grandchildren.

Memorial rites today for infant
Ariel Rene Patrick, infant daughter of Steve and Deborah Patrick, died Tuesday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
A memorial service was today at the Calvary Cemetery in Augusta. Father Thomas Stroot officiated.
She was born Feb. 17 in Wichita.
Besides her parents, other survivors include a brother, Jason Catlett of the home; maternal grandparents, Charles and Pauline Combow of Augusta; paternal grandmother, JoAnn Patrick of Augusta; paternal grandfather, Darrell Patrick of Pratt, and paternal great-grandfather, Merton Hill of Benton.
