Josephine Cherrie rites were Monday
Josephine McCullough Cherrie, 87, Augusta, died Thursday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
There was a prayer service at 2 p.m. yesterday at the Burris-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Parsons. Rev. Stanley Land officiated and burial was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been establish memorials to the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was born Nov. 2, 1899, near Perkins, Okla., to James and Sarah Chrisman Ball.
She and John McCullough married Aug. 12, 1922 in Parsons. He died in 1950.
She married Earl Cherrie on April 27, 1969. He died July 25, 1979.
Mrs. Cherrie was a member of the Independence Methodist Church; a life member of the Telephone Pioneers; a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star; the Rebekah Lodge; the White Shrine, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Fern Brown of Pittsburg; two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

Harold Blankenship died in El Dorado
Harold L. Blankenship, 78, El Dorado, stepfather of Charles Collins and Trudy Claycamp, both of Augusta, died Saturday at an El Dorado nursing home.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. today at the Kirby-Morris Funeral home in El Dorado. Rev. Wayne Sharp and Rev. Leon Hayen officiated and burial was in the Blankenship Cemetery in Rosalia.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Heart Association.
He was born Sept. 20, 1908 in Neal to William C. and Alta Kester Blankenship.
He married Ruth Lewis Sept. 10, 1931, in El Dorado. She preceded him in death.
He married Lucille Collins on Oct. 15, 1973, in El Dorado. She survives.
Mr. Blankenship was a self-employed real estate agent and broker.
Other survivors include a daughter, Barbara Gipson of El Dorado; stepdaughter, Marcia Guy of El Dorado; sisters, Opal Zimmerman of El Dorado, Leaford Perry of California; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

James J. Johnson died at 73 Tuesday
James Joseph Johnson, 73, Douglass, died Tuesday at the Veterans Hospital in Wichita.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass. Rev. Tal Tittsworth and Pator Jim Lorensen will officiate and burial will be at 2:30 p.m tomorrow at the Hardtner, Kan., cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Feb. 15, 1914 in Hardtner to James and Nannie Mae Edwards Johnson.
He married Doris M. Kaiser on Jan. 14, 1936 in Wellington. She survives. Mr. Johnson was a retired Mobil Refinery employee and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Other survivors include daughters, Rebecca Johnson Kuntz of El Dorado, Christine Johnson Ayre of Augusta; brother, Donald D. of Hutchinson; sister, Zada Sheddy of Hardtner, and three grandchildren.

Eva McClurg rites are Friday
Eva McClurg, Branson, Mo., former Augusta resident and sister of Hattie Harding of Augusta, died yesterday in a Branson hospital.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Whelchel Funeral Home in Branson.
She married Shirley McClurg in Aug. 25, 1935. He survives.
Mrs. McClurg owned and operated a beauty shop in the Augusta area until 1975 when she and her husband retired and moved to Branson. She was a member of the Hollister Baptist Church.
Other survivors a daughter and son-in-law, Thelma and Harold Edwards of Branson; sisters, Hazel Sewell of Rogersville, Mo., and Lottie Farthing of El Dorado; grandchildren, Dickey Young of Augusta, Vickie Froeschole and Ronnie Edwards, both of Branson and several nieces and nephews.

James S. Bass rites were today
James Stanley Bass, 71, Winfield, father of Marcia Newton of Augusta, died Monday at a Winfield hospital.
A graveside service was at 2 p.m. today at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Rev. M.E. Jenkins officiated.
A memorial has been established with the Hackney Community Baptist Church in Winfield.
He was born July 31, 1915 in Scribbling, Tenn., to Stanley and Sally Mobley Bass.
He married Margaret Heflin on March 10, 1939 in Winfield. She survives.
Mr. Bass was a retired Railway Exprss Agency agent. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks of Kansas and Oklahoma.
Other survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Payne, of Winfield; sister, Ernestine Upshaw of Hot Springs, Ark., and two grandchildren.
