Deaths
Gilliland Dies At 84
Josephine A. Gilliland, 84, Leon, died Wednesday at the Growse Valley Nursing Home in Dexter.
Her service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Leon United Methodist Church. Rev. Jack Williams will officiate and burial will be in the Leon Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Leon United Methodist Church.
She was bom Sept. 7, 1897 in Cedar Vale to Joseph Wesley and Althea Willson Meldrum.
She married Claude K. Gilliland Feb. 22, 1921 in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1980.
She was a member of the Leon Eastern Star, the Quest Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Knife and Fork Club.
She graduated from Kansas State College in Manhattan. She taught home economics in the Leon High School.
Survivors include two sons, James J. Gilliland of Leon and Eugene M. Gilliland of Dexter; two grandsons, Joe Gilliland and Dr. Mark Gilliland, both of Houston, Texas, and two great-grandchildren.
Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.
Stepfather Dies At 57
Jack D. Rankin, 57, Hutchinson, stepfather of Larry Hall of Augusta, died June 22 at a Hutchinson hospital.
His service will be at 8 o'clock tonight at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home in Hutchinson. Rev. William T. Soule will officiate. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fort Riley Cemetery. Chaplain Raymond Larson will officiate.
He was born Dec. 1, 1924 in Lincoln to Robert and Henriette Kobbeman Rankin.
He married Joan Peurves in Hutchinson June 2, 1973. She survives.
He was a retired Army sergeant. He served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
Other survivors include two sons, Jerry Rankin of Berkley, Calif., and Perry Rankin of Hutchinson; three stepsons, Loren Hall of Burrton, Michael Hall of Oklahoma, Robert Hall of Newton; daughters, Terri Mendoza and Barbara Marteney, both of Hutchinson; two brothers, Merl Rankin and Rayfield Rankin, both of Lincoln; two sisters, Dorothy Johnstone of Manhattan and Ethel Konch of Lincoln, and 16 grandchildren.
Copple Dies In Douglass
Anna Belle Copple, 91, Douglass, died today in Douglass.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born May 19, 1891 in Portland, Ore., to Tom and Alice Lucille Cook Tucker.
She married John Lester Copple March 14, 1908 in Wagoner, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1971.
She was a Baptist.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Waymire of Wichita, and Betty Jean Harrington and Alice Haggerty, both of Lakewood, Colo.; a half brother, Arlis Williams, Las Vegas, Nev., and five grandchildren.
