Friday, March 25, 1988
Retired farmer died at home
Harry H. Murphy, 95, a lifelong rural Butler County farmer and rancher, died Tuedsay, March 22, at his rural El Dorado home.
His funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in El Dorado, Rev. Hank Demouf will officiate and burial will follow at the Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of El Dorado, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Farm Bureau Association. He served his country in the Army during World War I.
He was born Sept. 6, 1892 to Christopher C. and Mary E. Carter. On Aug. 12, 1919, he married Icy Elizabeth Rutherford, in El Dorado. She preceded him in death in 1983.
Survivors include a son; Alfred A. of Wichita; three daughters, Eva L. Lachenmayr, of Walnut Creek, Calif., Virginia M. Sluss and Mary D. McCoy of El Dorado; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been suggested to the First Christian Church. Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles H. Gehlen died on Tuesday
Retired farmer Charles H. Gehlen, 85, Medicine Lodge, father of Virginia Pelzl of Augusta, died Tuesday, March 22.
His funeral will be 2 o’clock Saturday, March 26, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medicine Lodge. A rosary will be recited at the Forsyth Funeral Home 7:30 Friday evening, March 25.
In addition to the daughter here, he leaves a wife, Helen; sons Arnold and Raphael, both of Sharon, Edward of Medicine Lodge; other daughters, Sister Lillian of Gusau of Nigeria, Alma Weber, Delores Hudson, both of Nashville, Catherine Wooten of Park City, Elizabeth Mosiman of Newton, 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Ashley Doolittle died Friday
Ashley Nicole Doolittle, daughter of Guy and Tammy Doolittle, Belle Plaine, died Friday, March 25.
Service were today at 4 p.m. at Mulvane Cemetery. Brother Herbert Scott, Chuch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, officiated.
She is survived by her parents, two brothers, Adam Miller, of the home, and Nicholas Doolittle, Augusta; three sisters, Angie Marcy of Augusta, CaRissa Doolittle and Sarah Miller, of the home; grandparents Earl and Eileen Headgepath of Mulvane, grandfather and step-grandmother Paul and Zoe Doolittle of Winfield and step-grandfather and grandmother Donald and Sue Brawdy of Belle Plaine; and great-grandparents Ada Drollinger, Wichita and Earl and Lucille Headgepath, Wichita and Lewis and Dorlis Doolittle of Udall. T. Feme Smith died Sunday
T. Ferne Pricer Smith, 82, rural Augusta homemaker, died Sunday, March 27, at her home. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Methodist Church.
Her funeral will be Wednesday morning at 11 at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Garden Cemetery.
She was born March 31, 1905, to James C. and Temperance Strohl Graves.
She is survived by a daughter Bevery Nulik, Wichita; two sisters, Ireth Mattingly and Lois Morris, Wellington; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Oakley A. Smith died on Monday
Oakley A. Smith, 79, Augusta, died Monday, March 28, at the Woodlawn Health Care Center in Wichita.
A graveside service for this retired Coleman Co. supervisor was held this afternoon at the White Chapel Memorial Garden in Wichita with Rev. Max Clayton officiating.
Smith was born Nov. 1,1908 in Enid, Okla., as a son of John and Martha Smith.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Joan Jochum of Wichita, a brother, John R. Smith, and a sister, Adelyne Patrick, both of Blackwell, Okla., another sister, Mary Janette Comerford of Arle-ta, Calif., and two grandsons.
Memorials to the Wesley Medical Foundation are suggested.
The Byrd-Snodgrass Funeral Home was in charge of arragements.

Gladys J. Myers died in El Dorado
Augusta homemaker Gladys Juanita Myers, 85, died today, March 30, at Knutson Manor nursing home in El Dorado.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, in Elmwood Cemetery with Rev. George Goudie officiating.
She was born June 28, 1902, to Raymond Keihl and Lela Hodson, in Wichita.
On May 25, 1921, she married Arthur Preston Myers in Winfield. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Wallace, Augusta and Ruth Green, Pittsburg; a brother, Robert Keihl, San Fransisco; two sisters, Gertrude Nazar, Redwood, Calif., and Ella Kness, Utah; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta has charge of the arrangements.
