Augustan’s brother died in Oregon
Leonard E. Harms, 85, of Salem, Ore., died Sunday, April 10, in Dallas, Ore.
Harms was born Sept. 29, 1902 in Whitewater. His brother John, resides in Augusta.
He was buried Thursday, April 14, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Salem.
Other survivors include his wife Mary; son Eldon James of Salem; daughter, Lorraine Ruch of Salem; another brother, Alvin of Newton; sisters Agatha Reimer of Beatice, Neb., Esther Penner of Hesston, and Justena Classen and Dorothy Penner, both of Newton.
He moved to Salem in 1929, following graduation from Bible Institute of Los Angeles in 1924. He worked as a mechanic for Hunts Cannery in Salem for 20 years and then became a home builder and developer for 15 years. He retired in 1972.
He was a member of Emmanual Bible Church, Pratum, Ore., and a 50-year member of Gideons International. Contributions may be made to Gideons International or to the Union Gospel Mission, in Salem.

Augustan’s sister died in Arkansas
Neta Friesen, 69, Mountain Home, Ark., sister of Augustan Dena Swafford, died Sunday, April 24. Memorial services were held Monday at the First Chirstian Church. A private funeral was planned for the Springfield National Cemetery, Springfield, Mo.
She was born April 14, 1919, in Haven to James Edgar and Celia Pearl Rickenbrode Truitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Friesen, her parents and a daughter, Kyle.
She is also survived by five daughers, Betty Boister of Hutchinson, Phyllis Hooker of Hollister, Mo., Connie Lehman of Benton, Linda Mahoney of Mountain Home, Ark., and Jolene Nelson of Red Bluff, Colo.; a brother, Dr. Theo Triutt of Elkhart; Augusta; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Alva L. Thompson funeral Saturday
Alva L. Thompson, 90, of Lost Springs, died this morning, April 28, at the hospital in Herington. He was a retired Mobil Oil Pipe Line Co. employee and lived for several years in the Augusta area.
He was the brother-in-law of Mrs. Fred Thompson of Augusta.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Thompson-Harp Mortuary in Marion. Graveside services will be at Elmwood Cemetery here at 2 p.m. Saturday.
He was born June, 17, 1987 in Ava, Mo.
He married Edith Perkins on Oct. 11, 1919.
Survivors include his wife, Edith, of Lost Springs; four sons, Darrell and Ferrallee of Marion, LaVonne of McPherson and Wendel of Denver; a sister, Martha Bums of Fallon, Nev.; two half-brothers, Chauncey of Illinois and Reggie of El Dorado; two half-sisters, Beuna Gray of Ozark, Mo., and Ada, of Ponca City, Okla.; 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Katie I. Craig died Tuesday
Katie Isabelle Craig, 82, Copan, Okla., mother of Augustan Peggy Squires, died Tuesday, April 26.
Her funeral service will be 11 o’clock tomorrow morning, April 29, at the First Baptist Church in Caney.
In addition to the daughter here, she leaves a husband, Roy, another daughter, Marilyn Wood-fin of Bigsby, Okla.; sisters Nellie Houston of Ardmore, Okla., Fontella Farmer and Jean Vaughn, both of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Vernon ‘Bud’ Bond funeral Saturday
A funeral service for Vernon M. “Bud” Bond, 62, of rural Augusta, was held Saturday, April 30, at the Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Doyle Mendenhall of Prairie Hills Southern Baptist Church officiated.
A graveside service was conducted by McConnell Air Force Base at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Bond was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Wichita.
This retired service station employee died April 27 in Deming, N.M.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Vicki L. Davis of Spokane, Wash., and a grandchild.

Doris F. Purcell funeral today
Doris F. Purcell, 58, Wichita, mother of Felicia Keeton of Leon, died Friday, April 29, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service was held this morning at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wichita and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.
She was born Aug. 21, 1929 at DeKalb, Mo., as a daughter of Harold and Mildred Sampson DeVer.
In addition to the daughter in Leon, she leaves a husband, Donald, and a son, Phillip Ellsworth, both of Wichita; another daughter, Michelle Williams of Maize; her mother, Mildred Foross of Wichita; a brother, Anthony Foross of Norton, and eight granchildren.
The DeVorss-Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary of Wichita was in charge of arrangements.
