H.H. Peal Dies At 78
Harold H. Peal, 78, El Dorado, died Saturday at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
His service will be 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Rev. Richard Bacon, pastor of the Augusta First Christian Church, will officiate and burial will be in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
Peal, a retired Skelly refinery worker, was born April 15, 1904 in Augusta to William and Estella Carter Peal.
He married the former Anna Sherman April 12, 1928 during a ceremony at El Dorado. She survives.
The deceased was a member of the Augusta First Christian Church and the El Dorado Elks Club.
He also leaves two sons, William R. of El Dorado and Richard of Bellevue, Wash., 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
Father Dies In Wichita
Arthur L. Howe Sr., 67, Wichita, father of Doreen Eardley of Augusta, died Saturday at Osteopathic Hospital in Wichita.
His service will be 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at Christ the King Catholic church in Wichita and burial in the Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
He was bom March 24,1915 in Massachusetts to Benjamin and Elizabeth Johson Howe.
He married Violet Bouchard. She survives.
He was a retired mill operator for Star Lumber Co., in Wichita.
Other survivors include sons, Arthur Howe Jr., of Medical Lake, Wash., and Duanne Howe of Wichita; another daughter, Sandra Gleeson of Wichita; a brother Steven Howe of Mid-dleboro, Mass.; sisters, Gertrude Place of Connecticut, Martha Wales of Acushnet, Mass., and Sally Fichtameyer of New Bedford, Mass.
Towanda Man
Dies In Car
A 22-year-old rural Towanda man died early Sunday morning in a one-car accident four miles east of the Andover Road on 21st Street.
Butler County Sheriff Dave Williams identified the victim as Rodney Duane Marten.
Marten apparently died after he lost control of his 1978 Pontiac and it struck a tree. The accident was discovered around 8:15 a.m. approximately two hours after authorities believe it occurred.
Sheriff Williams said Marten was alone in the car. “There are indications that another car might possibly have been involved," he added.
Graveside services for Marten will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lakeview Cemetery in Wichita.
He was born Feb. 13, 1959 in El Dorado to Roland F. and Pauline Powell Marten.
He was a former Beech Aircraft Co. employee.
Survivors include a brother, Terry L. Marten of Augusta; a half-brother, Roland L. Marten of Wichita; two sisters, Janice Wilson of Goddard and Rowena F. Warrener of Wichita; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roland F. Marten, rural Towanda, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Otis E. Powell, Blue Mound.
M.H. Benison Dies At 81
Matilda Heinzman Benison, 81. Oceanside, Calif., sister of Ada Watt and grandmother of Michael Harkrider, both of Augusta, died Friday in California.
Her service was Saturday in Oceanside.
She was born June 7, 1901 in Missouri and came to Augusta in 1907 with her parents, Charles and Mary Heinzman.
She grew up on a farm southeast of Augusta and in 1922, she married Buell Mauk of Augusta. He died in 1934.
She married Harry Benison. He died in 1973.
Other survivors include four sons, Orval Mauk of Texas, Buell Mauk Jr., of San Jose, Calif., Harry Benison Jr., of New Jersey and Frederick Bennison of San Diego, Calif.; a stepson, William Benison of Washington; two daughters, Mary Crombach of Vista, Calif., and Charlene Hanke of Denver, Colo.; three other sisters, Eva Carnahan of Batavia, N.Y., Ann Kosanke, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Margaret Richardson of Moses Lake, Wash.; two brothers, Delbert Heinzman of Julesberg, Colo., and John Heinzman of Yelm, Wash.; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Saturday Rites For Newborn
Graveside services for John Wayne Gilliand Jr., were at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elmwood Cemetery.
Rev. Larry Nebergall of First Baptist Church officiated.
He was born Friday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He died there Friday.
Survivors include his parents, John and Colleen Kay Collins Gilliand Sr., of rural Augusta; a brother, Jason Gilliand of the home; grandparents, Rowena Gilliand of Augusta, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Collins of Emporia, and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Henry Leslie of Perry.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.
