LaVerne Smith dies at hospital
Homemaker LaVerne W. Smith, 83, Augusta, died today, June 27, at Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 29, at the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel here. Rev. Michael Omundson of First Christian Church will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was bom Oct. 13, 1906 in Okarche, Okla., as a daughter of Burt Standard and Bessie Harrington Standard.
She attended Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha and graduated from Oklahoma University at Norman.
On May 22, 1935, she and Roy L. Smith were united in marriage during a ceremony in Arkansas City. He survives.
Survivors include daughters Sue Allison of Augusta, Mary Beth Paulicek of Kingman, Ariz., and Helen Sherwood of Wichita; a brother, Tom Standard of Hays; a sister, Don Elda Moeller of Okarche, Okla., and seven grandchildren.
Memorials to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan., 66506, have been suggested.

Lawlor’s father dies in Arizona
Edmund Lawlor of Fountain Hills, Ariz., father of Peter Lawlor of Augusta, died Sunday, July 8.
His funeral service will be Wednesday.
Memorials to the American Heart Association are suggested.

Howard I. Goodner dies Thursday

Brother of Augusta resident Jim Goodner, Howard I. Goodner, 64, Iola, died Thursday, July 5.
Services were today at Highland Cemetery.
He was a retired cement plant miller.
Other survivors include sons, Harold of Fredonia, Raymond of Iola, Kenneth of Chanute; daughters, Pamela Baker of Coffeyville, Betty Scheer of Bar-stow, Calif., Christine Kilby of Iola; brother, Bill of Lebanon, Ore.; sister, Faye Louise of Iola; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorials Chapels are in charge of arrangements.

Lavon J. Thomas services Tuesday

Father of Augusta resident Kevin Thomas, Lavon J. Thomas Sr., 69, Derby, died Friday, July
6.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elpyco Church of Christ, Wichita.
Other survivors include his wife, Dorothy; sons, Lavon Jr. of Derby, George of Wichita; daughter, Vickey Noble of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with Elpyco Church of Christ and the American Heart Association.
Smith Mortuary, Derby, is in charge of arrangements.

Nicole Alexander dies Sunday

Nicole Marie Alexander, 7, Douglass, died Sunday at Wesley Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in a Memorial Day automobile accident
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St John’s Lutheran Church in Wellington, the Rev. Stephen Para officiating.
Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hawk’s Funeral Home in Wellington from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday. Address of the funeral home is 704 N. Washington. The casket will not be opened at the church.
Alexander was born Dec. 5, 1982 in Wellington where she lived until two years ago when she moved to Douglass.
Survivors include her father and his wife, Kelly and Kathy Alexander of Douglass; her mother, Donna (Shepard) Alexander of Wellington; brother Curtis Dean Alexander of Douglass; grandparents Elza and Marjorie Alexander, Roger and Joan Shepard, Marlin and Shiriey Knox, all of Wellington; great-grandparents Lester and Ethel Alexander, George and Jean Combs of Wellington, and Ver-nie Jones of Tescott.
A memorial has been established with the parents room in the pediatrics intensive care unit at Wesley Medical Center.
