Gertrude Patterson
Former Augusta resident Gertrude J. Patterson, 92, Clay Center, died Monday, April 15, 1996 at the Clay Center Med-icalodge.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home
in Clay Center with Rev. David Bybee officiating.
There will also be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Elmwood Cemetery with
Dr. Robert A. Box officiating and conducting her burial with Eastern Star honors.
Patterson was born Dec. 27, 1903 in Washington County to Charles Elsworth and Minnie Adela (Rutherford) Robbins.
The homemaker married Sidney Patterson in 1945 in Clay Center.
They moved to Augusta and ran the local Elks Lodge for several years, and she also was a member of the Eastern Star.
He preceded her in death in 1971.
She is survived by her niece, Nelda Flowers of Fairbury’ Neb.; a nephew, John Jandera of Topeka.
Doris E. Sanborn
Doris Elizabeth Sanborn, 91, Augusta, died Tuesday, April 16,' 1996, at Augusta Medical’ Complex.
There will be a graveside service for her at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at
Elmwood Cemetery Augusta with Dr. Robert Box of Frist Baptist Church officiating.
Sanborn was born April 2, 1905 in New Hampshire and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Melvin Sanborn of Augusta three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Shrine Burn Center.
Hillside Funeral Home Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
"TV" Peckham
Wallace “Ty” Peckham, 27, Houston, Texas, grandson of former Augusta residents
Taylor and Loleta Peckham of League City, Texas, died Sunday, April 14, 1996.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Andover.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Gulf Coast Site Contractors.
In addition to his grandparents, Peckham leaves his father Wallace Peckham of Kemah, Texas;
mother, Donna Kletchka of Rose Hill; sisters, Julie Peckham of Rose Hill, and Michelle Davis of Houston.
The Downing & Lahey Funeral Home of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
Winifred L. Starr
Winifred Lucille Starr, 77, Augusta, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at Augusta Medical Complex.
She will have a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 29, 1918 in Delaware, Okla., to Samuel Elmer and Marguerite May (Crupper) Jones.
She married Norman Floyd Starr in 1977 in Augusta. He preceded her in death on April 14,1991.
Survivors for the retired Boeing employee are her son, James M. Bemiss of Norfolk, Va.;
sisters, Naomi Wheeler and Faye Carson, both of Augusta, Thelma Gragg and Marie Gilliland, both of Wichita;
three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
Hillside Funeral Home Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
Henrietta Heffron
Former Yates Center resident Henrietta Heffron, 88, Augusta, died Saturday, April 13, 1996, at the Augusta Medical Complex Long Term Care Facility.
Her funeral service was at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center yesterday afternoon, April 15.
Burial was in the Highland Cemetery at Iola.
She was born May 20, 1907 near Batesville in Woodson County as the daughter of John L. and Sadie Bums Wolford.
On April 29, 1929, she and Carl James Heffron were married in a ceremony at Burlington. He preceded her in death.
This former teachers leaves a son, Carl Heffron of Sun City, Ariz,; daughter, Charlotte Buckmaster of Wichita;
a brother, Rodney Wolford of Erie; sisters, Kate Myers of Topeka, Hildegarde Troxel of Edwardsville, ILL.,
Ardell Boyer of Iola; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the Augusta Medical Complex Long Term Care Facility where she had been a resident
since 1992 have been suggested by the family.

Lillie E. Sullivan, 98, Augusta, died today, May 17, 1996, at the Augusta Medical Complex Inc.
There will be a graveside funeral for her at 1 p.m. tomorrow, May 18, at Calvary Cemeter in Wichita
with Father James Mainzer, St. James Catholic Church, officiating.
Sullivan was a homemaker that was born Aug. 14, 1897 in Concordia to John and Clara (Chesley) Eakins.
She is survived by her son, Michael Sullivan of Augusta and nine grandchildren.
