Cleo M. Chappell
Former Augusta resident, Cleo M. Chappell, Mount Hope, died Tuesday, May 7, 1996.
Visitation will be until 9 this evening and from 9 to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, May 11,
at the Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Mount Hope.
There will be a graveside service for her at noon Saturday in the Mount Hope Cemetery with Rev. Bob Gleason officiating.
Chappell was born March 31, 1912 in Augusta, to Fred and Rose Ethel (Thompson) Plummer.
She married Alva Chappell in June of 1934 in Augusta. She was an retired aircraft worker.
She is survived by her son, Stephen A. Chappell of Marathon, Fla.; sister, Freda Jorgensen of Wichita;
granddaughter, Sara E. Chappell of N. Wilkesboro, N.C.
A memorial has been established to the Mount Hope Nursing Center.

Bea F. Smotherman, 96, Augusta, died Sunday, May 5, 1996, at Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Hillside Funeral Home, Augusta,
with Rev. Michael Omundson of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Smotherman was born Nov. 23, 1899 in Teresita, Mo., to Curtis and Agnes (Culpepper) Farrar.
The homemaker is survived by her sons, Homer Lee Smotherman Jr. of Turpin, Okla.;
daughters, Ilene Smith, Reta Beth Dewing, both of Augusta, Icel Isaacs of Turpin, Okla.;
sisters, Mildred Raemer, Huntington Beach, Calif.;
six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.

William W. “Bill” Davis, 81, Augusta, died Saturday, May 11, 1996 at Augusta Medical Complex.
There will be a memorial service for Davis at 3 p.m. Thursday at the
Hillside Funeral Home Augusta Chapel, Augusta, with Rev. Vern Bowers of Frist United Methodist Church officiating.
Cremation has already taken place.
A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, Ark.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Davis married Florence Lorraine Terrill on Aug. 14, 1934 in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his son, Michael T. Davis of Wichita; brothers, Hubert Davis of Fort Smith, Ark.,
Nathaniel N. Davis of Little Rock, Ark.; sister, Jimmie Hellen Wald of Fort Smith, and two grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the Augusta Medical Complex Inc.

Kenneth Ruggles
Former Augusta resident Kenneth Ruggles, 81, Lancaster, Calif., died Thursday, April 25, 1996.
His funeral service was today n Lake Isabella, Calif.
Ruggles was bornn June 6, 1914 in Winfield to Jesse and Ora (Kennedy) Ruggles.
He graduated Douglass High School and was a member of the Elks Lodge and worked at the
Mobil Oil Refinery before transferring to Torrance, Calif.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Muldenhauer of Hesperia, Calif.,
three grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Donald Ruggles of Augusta and a sister, Doris Rorer of Raymore, Mo.

Reba Lois Jacobs, 72, Augusta, died Sunday, May 5, 1996, at Augusta Medical Complex. ,
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel
with Rev. Howard Freisen, Cumberland Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Jacobs was born June 22, 1923 in Neodesha to William Howard and Goldie Mae (West) Larcom.
She became a homemaker when she married Robert Charles Jacobs on Dec. 10, 1940 in El Dorado.
He preceded her in death in 1991.
She is survived by her daughters, Judie Jackson of Augusta, Patricia Ann Bruce of Phoenix, Ariz.,
Bobbie Charlene Westwick of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; brother, Howard Larcom of Showloe, Ariz.;
sisters, Helen Bechtold of Augusta, Joyce Potts of Wichita;
six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. -

Wilma A. Coulson, 72, Augusta, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996, Wesley Hospital, Wichita.
Her service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Hillside Funeral Home, Augusta and she will be buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
The homemaker was born Dec. 3, 1923 in Butler County, to Newt and Hazel (Taylor) Dennett.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Coulson of Wichita; sisters, Dorothy Whitson of Roseburg, Ore.,
Twila Groves of Wichita, Darlene Bryan, Bellingham, Wash.; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.
