Robert J. Cole
Robert J. Cole, 85, of Augusta died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at Augusta Medical complex.
His family will receive visitors until 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 7, at Swisher Taylor & Morris Funeral Home, Winfield.
His graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Highland Cemetery. Rev. Russ Jones of Winfield First Christian Church will officiate.
Robert Cole was born Jan. 27, 1911, to William S. and Cora Ann (Wicker) Cole in Winfield.
He married Elizabeth Ann Winn July 20, 1931, in El Dorado. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 1996.
Cole worked at Gott Manufacturing until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors are son, Robert T. Cole of El Paso, Texas; daughter, Mary Grill of Augusta; sister, Elizabeth Hall of Ft. Dodge; grandchildren, Jeff Cole, Debbie Cole, Cindy Holub, Jennifer Grill and Chris Grill and four greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with First Christian Church. Contributions may be sent to the funeral home.
Betty W. Hughes
Betty W. Hughes, 75, of Overland Park and formerly of Augusta died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at her home.
Her memorial service was today at Valley View United Methodist Church, Overland Park. Graveside service at 2 p.m.
will be Tuesday, Jan 7, 1997, at Elmwood Cemetery.
Betty Wright was born Jan. 6, 1921, to John and Helen Wright in Augusta. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1939.
She married Morris L. Hughes Aug. 22, 1942.
She was a sales clerk for C.R. Calverts Company.
Survivors are husband, Morris L. Hughes of the home; daughters, Diana L. Hughes of Overland Park and Linda H. Diffenbach of West Chester, Pa. and sister, Shirley Crist of Augusta.
A memorial has been established with Kansas City Hospice, Inc., 1625 W. 92 St., Kansas City, MO. 64114-9756. D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Orpha Williams
Orpha Naomi Williams, 88, of Beaumont, Texas, and formerly of Augusta died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Dunsford Funeral Home.
Her graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7. at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. William Childress will officiate.
Orpha Naomi Bandy was born Feb. 5, 1908, to Clyde Preston and Mary Nina (Nuttle) Bandy in Milan.
She married Clarence M. “Judy” Williams Oct. 10, 1931, in Wichita. He preceded her in death sept. 18, 1972.
She was a retired clerical supervisor at Beech Aircraft and a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She moved from Augusta in 1988.
Survivors are daughter, Joyce Chalmers of Beaumont, Texas; niece, Nina June Parry of Augusta; grandchildren, Larry Gurney of Wichita and Lynda Queen and Lora Walker both of Augusta and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.
