Bill J. Bates Sr.
Bill J. Bates Sr., 69, of Augusta died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Prairie Hills Baptist Church. Rev. Blake Orr will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Bill J. Bates was born Dec. 23, 1927, to George B. and Etta Mae (Grimes) Bates in Broken Arrow, Okla.
He was a boiler maker welder and formerly lived in El Dorado.
Survivors are sons Bill Bates, Jr. and James Bates both of Augusta; daughters, Ethel Brooks of Ohio, Martha Skaggs and Joyce Liebst both of Augusta, Barbara Hamstead of Cickasha, Okla, and Debra Britton of Sterling; sisters, Margaret Pitzer of Wichita, Alberta Whitcomb of Haysville and Hazel Wingard of Arkansas; 17 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be sent to Dunsford Funeral Home.

Eddie E. Gibson
Eddie E. Gibson, 86, of Augusta died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at Via-Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Walnut Valley memorial Park.
Eddie Gibson was born Feb. 27, 1910, at Piedmont to
Benjamin Franklin and Hallie Maude (Norman) Gibson.
He married Grace Lenora Robinson May 12, 1927, in El Dorado. She preceded him in death March 31, 1990.
He was a quality control manager for Tweco Products Company. He moved to Augusta in 1988.
Survivors are son, Ed. Gibson of Overland Park; daughter, Doris Henderson of Wichita-brother, Virgil Gibson of Redding,Calif.; sisters, Myrtle Brooks of Des Moines, Iowa, Nora Haiper of El Dorado, Marie Dick of Leonard, Texas and Ann Scott of Linwood, Wash; nine grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents a son, Ted, two brothers and one sister.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent to the funeral home.

Vernie Marshall
Vemie William Marshall, 69, ' of Augusta died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in the Long Term Care Unit of Augusta Medical Complex.
Rev. Frank Miller officiated The Masonic graveside service today at Elmwood Cemetery was conducted by Ed Freeman.
Vernie Marshall was born March 6, 1927, to Robert E. and Lillie (Sutton) Marshall in Potwin.
He married Donna Wilson .March 29, 1944, in El Dorado.
He was an electrical and mechanical coordinator for Mobil Pipeline before his retirement. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are wife Donna Marshall of Augusta; son, Vemie W. “Bill” Marshall II of Issaquah, Wash.; brothers, Larry “Pete” Marshall of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jo Marshall of Modesta, Calif.; sisters Lucille Hand of Grove, Okla., and Marcille Tuttle of Augusta; grandchildren, Darren Little of
Towanda, Kristi Marshall of Seattle, Ore., and Justin Frazier of Webster City, Iowa and great-grandson, Gabriel Little.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Little.
A memorial has been established with Alzheimer’s & Similar Diseases, P.O. Box 2763, Wichita, KS. 67201, and the Church of the Nazarene, Augusta.
