Maxine Goodwin

Maxine L. Goodwin, 83, of Augusta, died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at her daughter’s home in Spring Valley, Calif.
Her family will receive visitors from 7 until 8 p.m. tonight at Dunsford Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Vern Bower presiding. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at Parsons.
Maxine L. Finical was born Nov. 27, 1913, to Charles O. and Wealtha Gay (Scranton) Finical in Parsons.
She married Gordon M. Goodwin June 26, 1938, in Parsons. He died in 1981.
She ran the Goodwin Funeral Home in Edna for 34 years and was a retired funeral director. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Augusta.
Survivors are son, Dr. Wendall Goodwin of Springfield, Mo.; daughter, Linda G. Ellis of Spring Valley, Calif; sister, Marguerite Sage of Leesburg, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Frances E. Polk

Frances E. Polk, 83, of Augusta died Thursday, April 24, 1997, at Walnut Valley Manor nursing home/
Her funeral service was this morning at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Vem Bowers officiated and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
Frances E. Walker was born Feb. 11, 1914, in Mt. Vernon, Ind., to R.F. and Nellie (Sanders) Walker. She moved to Augusta as a child in 1919.
She married Virgil Polk Aug. 12, 1932 in Winfield’s Methodist Ghurch. He preceded her in death 1994.
She was a beautician, owning and operating Frances Beauty Shop for 28 years. She also helped her husband establish Mobil agency in Douglass. The Polks returned to Augusta in 1973 after they retired.
Frances was an active member of the Methodist church. She taught the high school Sunday School class in Douglass for 22 years, and was a member of the administrative boards for 39 years. She served on many committees and was a life member of United Methodist Women and was also active in circle. She was also a member of PEO Sister hood, Outlook Club, and Brown Baggers. She was a past president of Round Table, was a charter member of the Kiwanis Drum & Bugle Corps and also volunteered at Walnut Valley Manor.
Survivors are son, Virgil R. Polk, Jr. and Blue Springs, Mo.; brother, Ken Walker of Georgetown, Texas; grandsons, Robin Polk of Kansas City, Mo., Jeff Polk of Raymore, Mo., and Todd Polk of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and great-grandchildren; Nicolas, Brandon, Danielle, Katlyn and Morgan.
