Daniel H. Bachtel
Daniel H. Bachtel, 85, of Augusta died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the cemetery in Latham. Rev. Gary Beach of Manhattan will officiate.
He was born Feb. 6, 1908 in Bosworth, Mo., as the, son of John Richard Bachtel and Viletti Mabel Knepper Bachtel.
At the age of four, he and his family moved to a farm north of Latham in eastern Butler County.
He attended county schools and Latham High School and was captain of his football team his senior year.
Bachtel worked on the family farm following high school graduation in 1926. IN 1937, he returned to Carrollton, Mo., where he worked as a mechanic and school bus driver. *
He served with 42nd Infantry Division of U.S.Army in Europe during World War II.
He moved to Augusta in 1952. He retired from Beech Aircraft in 1970.
He leaves a brother, John Bachtel of Augusta, several nieces and nephews and their families.
Mr. Bachtel was a member of the Latham Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death in by his parents, four sisters, and three
brothers.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society are suggested.
