John Ayres Dies In Texas
John Ayres, 82, Port Arthur, Texas, a cousin of Allan Ayres of Augusta, died there Dec. 29.
Services were Friday, Dec. 31, at the United Methodist Church in Port Arthur.
Ayres retired about five years ago as the news editor of the Port Arthur, Texas, paper. He had been in the news buisness 51 years and held a law degree from Texas State University.
In November of 1967, citizens of Port Arthur honored him with a “John Ayres Day.” There was a dinner in his honor and many friends from the South attended including Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson.
In 1954, he was cited as “Texas Newsman of the Year.” The bar association in 1969 awarded him “Man of the Year” in 1969. He was given the “Voice of Democracy Award” by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ayres, who went to the funeral, report John Ayres had many relatives in the Augusta area and had visited here many times.

Amado Flores Dies At 56
Amado Flores, 56, Route 1, died Jan. 4 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Father David Cushing will officiate and burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 13, 1926 in Beauty, Texas, to Pablo and Cecilia Molina Flores.
He was a retired transport driver. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include sons, Charles P. of Hamilton, Larry of Augusta, Richard of Rose Hill, Amado Jr., of Mulvane and Jimmy and Mike, both of Derr-ing; daughters, Marjorie Forsythe of Leon, Mary Roberts of El Dorado, Juanita Landreth of Coffeyville and Pam Flores of Coffeyville; his mother, Cecilia Flores of Dodge City; brothers,
Al of Dodge City, Ben of Sacramento, Calif., Frank of Dayton, Ohio, and Richard and Paul of Hutchinson; sisters, Tillie Absher of Watonga, Okla., and Jane Kruger of Haysville, and 14 grandchildren.

Mother Dies In Marion
Edith Clara Druse, 77, Marion, mother of Betty Kaiser of Augusta, died Wednesday at the Marion hospital.
Her service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Eugene Wilson will officiate and burial will be in the Grant Township Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Valley United Methodist Church and St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion.
She was born Oct. 16, 1905 in Marion to Fred and Matilda Kohlman Miererhoff.
She married Martin Druse. He prededed her in death in 1979.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and Valley United Methodist Church.
Survivors also include another daughter, Leola Linder of Hope; a brother Ernest Meierhoff of Marion; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The Thompson-Harp Funeral Home at Marion is in charge of arrangements.

Brother Dies In Wichita
Enoch G. Haigler, 75, Wichita, brother of Mary Collins of Augusta, died Wednesday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His service will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Resthaven Mortuary. Elder Francis Vickery will officiate and burial will be in the Resthaven Garden of Memory.
He was born Nov. 22, 1907 in Granola to Smiley and Molly Rule Haigler.
He was a retired baker from Mr. D’s IGA in Wichita.
Other survivors include sons, William of Stratford, Okla., Rick of Wichita; daughters, Delora Kelley of Park City and Barbara Sodowski of Wichita; a brother Martin Haigler of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Father Dies In Wichita
Glynn O. Gaddie, 71, Wichita, father of Larry Kiser and Leonard Kiser, both of Augusta, died Jan. 5 at the Veterans Hospital in Wichita.
Graveside services were at 3 p.m. today at the Dunlap Cemetery in Rose Hill. Rev. Lewis Fowler officiated.
He was born Jan. 23, 1911 in Beechville, Ky., to Elijah and Kizzie Oaks Gaddie.
He was a retired mechanic.
Survivors also include his wife, Lavon Gaddie; three other sons, Daniel Kiser of Marshfield, Mo., Donald Kiser of Peck, Ronald Kiser of Wichita, and a daughter, Patsy Davidson of Hurst, Texas.

Grandmother Dies At 92
Maggie Shrumburg, 92, Wichita, grandmother of Connie Turner of Augusta, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Services are pending at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita.
Survivors also include another granddaughter, Shirley Justvig of Mission; a grandson, Jerry Lohrey of Moro, Ore.; two great-grandchildren, Cheryl McCracken and Allen Turner, both of Augusta, and a former daughter-in-law, Mildred Williams of Augusta.
