Stepfather Dies At 56
Robert D. Dennett, 56, Howard, stepfather of Jeffrey Mattix of Augusta, died Friday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His service was at 2 p.m. today at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Rev. Paul Lynn officiated and burial was in the Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the Howard United Methodist Church.
He was born Aug. 19, 1926 in Douglass to Merritt and Opal Dugan Dennett.
He married Wanda Lee Stear-man March 8, 1952. She survives.
He was a retired boiler operator for Vulcan Materials Co., in Wichita.
He was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include his father, Merritt Dennett; his stepmother, Peggy Dennett, both of Howard; another stepson, Jon Mattix of Goddard, and six grandchildren.
Mother Dies At Hospital
Edna L. Smith, 65, Wichita, mother of Roger Pearson of Augusta, died Friday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her service was at 1:30 p.m. today at the Downing. Lahey Mortuary in Wichita. Pastor Lillian Alderson officiated and burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
A memorial has been established with the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
She was born Sept. 22, 1917 in Oklahoma to J.H. and Lena Knight Reaves.
She married Garlin Smith. He survives.
Survivors also include another son, Richard Pearson of Derby; a daughter, Nadine McGowan of Sublette, and brothers, Curtis Reaves of Wichita and Marvin Reaves of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Beatrice Tharp
Beatrice Tharp, 74, Fort Wayne, Ind., died there Friday, Jan. 7. She was a former resident of Gordon and graduated from Augusta High School.
The Kirby-Morris Funeral Home at El Dorado is in charge of arrangements and burial will be in El Dorado.
Surviving are a brother, Cleon Tharp, and her mother, Mrs. Ott Tharp, both of El Dorado. She was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Lingafelter.

Sister Dies
Vera Wax, 74, Columbus, sister of Hazel Kinnamon of Augusta, died Monday at a Columbus nursing home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Leon Cemetery. The Jordan-Murdock Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Dec. 30, 1908 in Belleville as a daughter of Andrew and Maude Woods Isaac and grew up in the Douglass area.
On May 16, 1966, she and Herbert Wax were married in Miami, Okla. He also survives.

Lewis Meader Dies At 75
Lewis Edwin Meader, 75, 341 High, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
The retired Beech employee and local upholsterer was bom March 22, 1907 at Beatrice, Neb., as a son of Lewis E. and Edith Funk Meader.
On Jan. 11, 1926, he and the former Bertha Margaret Southard were united in marriage at Iola. She survives.
Meader also leaves two daughters, Melvine Wentling of Branson, Mo., and Edith B. Nauman of Colorado Springs, Colo., four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Brother Dies At Home
Vincent Robert Gillespie, 16, Moline, brother of Stacy Lynn Fouts of Douglass, died Monday, Jan. 10, at his home.
The vigil is at 8:15 tonight at the Watt Funeral Home in Moline. His service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moline. Father Charles Harvey will officiate.
He was born May 11, 1966 in Wichita to Michael Robert and Izena Northcutt Gillespie.
He was a sophomore at Independence High School.
Other survivors include his father, Michael Gillespie of Independence; his mother, Izena Gillespie of Cunningham; brothers, Michael Anthony Gillespie of Moline and Sheldon Grant Gillespie of Cunningham.
