Lois E. Harris
Lois E. Harris, 87, Augusta, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at the Lakepoint Nursing Center
Her graveside funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Fredonia (Kan.) Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 19, 1910 in Howard as the daughter of Fred E. Royse and Ethel Small Royse.
On Feb. 20, 1932, she married Edgar A. Harris in a ceremony at Oswego. He survives.
Mrs. Harris was a school teacher.
She also leaves a son, Phillip A. Harris of Protem. Mo.; daughter, Verlee Parrish of Augusta, brothers, George Royse and Hugh Royse, both of Longton; sister Edith Sprague of Caney; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Those grandchildren include Ben and Kathy Parrish of Augusta, Barry and Robin Parrish of Andover, Terry and Lawrence Harris of Leavenworth, Wayne and Sherry Harris of Valentine, Neb.,Phyllis/Senter Timmons of Green River, Wyo.
She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the First United Methodist Church of Augusta.
The Hillside Funeral Home Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
Gayle D. Bates
Gayle Diane Bates, 38, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at her home after a extended illness.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, at Prairie Hills Southern Baptist Church, west of Augusta. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Bates had worked as an inserter at the Augusta Daily Gazette before hospitalization with cancer complications.
On Jan. 15, 1975, she married Bill Bates. He also survives.
She was a member of Prairie Hills Southern Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother and husband, Mrs. Bates leaves a son, William James Bates; brothers, Dick Sharon and Elmer James Hayes Jr., both of Wichita, and Bobby Hayes of Oklahoma; sisters, Darlene Atwell of Arizona, Vernadine Butt£ and Pam Connor, both of Wichita, and Linda Moor of Florence; several nieces and nephews.
Contributions to help the family meet medical and other expenses may be left at the church.
The Hillside Funeral Home Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home around 8 o’clock this evening, according to the family which was to finalize funeral arrangements this afternoon.
She was preceded in death by her father, a son, Bill J. Bates III, and a brother, Tommy Walker.
Charlene Skaer
Charlene Helen Skaer, 86, of Augusta, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998 in Augusta.
Her funeral service will be held at Dunsford Funeral Home 2 p.m. Friday, July 3,
She was born on Nov. 3, 1911 in Idabel, Oklahoma, as the daughter of Charles Allen and Parthenia Fail Allen.
On April 19, 1935, she married William Stanley Skaer, who died on March 21, 1981.
Mrs. Skaer was a homemaker.
She leaves two sons, Dr. Stanley Skaer of Eureka, and Dr. William Skaer of Wichita. Mrs. Skaer had one daughter, Dolores DeSilver, who proceeded her in death. Mrs. Skaer leaves one sister, Aileen Wimberly from Oklahoma City, five granddaughters, and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Skaer was a member of the Augusta United Methodist
Church.
Memorials can be made to Hospice Inc., and the American Cancer Society.
