R.J. Schmidt Dies At AMCI
Robert Jacob Schmidt, 52, rural Leon, father of Eric Schmidt of Augusta, died Sunday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Neola Cemetery in Stafford County.
He was born July 10, 1930 in Stafford County to Leonard E. and Ora Cox Schmidt.
He married Sarah Simmons Dec. 5, 1949 in Claflin. She survives.
He was a pumper for Cities Service Oil Co., and a member of the United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include daughters, Rebecca Wolf of Zenda, Theresa Owen of El Dorado and Brenda Shaw of Wichita; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schmidt of Chase; a brother Basil Schmidt of Russell, and a sister, Geneva McGee of Belpre.

Ed Denver, 77, brother of Audrey Randall of Augusta, died Wednesday at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Rogers, Ark.,
His services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Rogers.

Former Augustan Dies In Texas
Percy Youngblood, 80, Brady, Texas, formerly of Augusta, died Wednesday at a Brady nursing home.
His funeral service was held today at the Colonial Funeral Home chapel in Brady and burial was in the San Saba cemetery there.
He was born Nov. 14, 1902 in Marionville, Mo.
Youngblood was a retired oil gauger and worked for Mobil Oil in Kansas.
He and the former Helen Byrdene Ray were married June 1, 1930. She survives.
Youngblood was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, two sisters, six grandchildren and one great-granchild.
Sister Dies In Texas
Edith Birran, 66, died Jan. 14 at her home in Elgin, Texas. She was the sister of Mrs. Wilbert (Alice) Foos of Augusta.
Birran was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Blankenship. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1935 and formerly lived here with her husband, Melvin Birran, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Leroy of Elgin and Dale of Houston; two daughters, Alice and Barbara of Houston; one brother, Rubert Blankenship of Titusville, Fla.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery.
Brother-In-Law
Ben Friesen, 68, Branson, Mo., brother-in-law of Deana Swafford of Augusta, died Wednesday at the Veterans Administration hospital in Fayetteville, Ark.
His funeral service will be 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at Branson and burial will be in the National Cemetery at Springfield, Mo.
He also survived by his wife, Neta, of the home, and five daughters.

Mary Whitlock Dies In Wichita
Mary Elizabeth Whitlock, 87, 1228 School, died Saturday at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.
Her service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Lourance of the Assembly of God Church will officiate and burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born April 10, 1895 in Beatrice, Neb., to John and Rachel Day Nelson.
She married Porter Alfred Whitlock Dec. 23, 1915 in Lincoln, Neb. He preceded her in death in 1961.
She had lived in Augusta since 1916. She was a homemaker. During World War II, she worked at Boeing Military Aircraft Co. After the war, she managed Don’s Photo Service which was owned by her son, Don.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include sons, Don Whitlock of McPherson and Tom Whitlock of Los Alamitos, Calif., and grandchildren, Tom Whitlock Jr., Don and Connie Whitlock and Steve Whitlock.
A son, Clifford, also preceded her in death.

Hubert C. Ward, 63, Wichita, brother of Geneva Johnson of Augusta, died Friday at Wesley Medical Center.
His service was at 10:30 a.m. today at the Broadway Mortuary in Wichita. Dr. John Click officiated and burial was in the Old Mission Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 17, 1920 in Charleston, Mo., to Virgil Jones and Eva Maud Frans Ward.
He was a security guard at the Wichita Area Vocational School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Other survivors include a son, Dennis Ward, of the home; step-daughter, Patricia Ward of Tulsa, Okla.; brothers, Dean Ward of Russell, Virgil Ward of Haysville, John Ward of Lathrop, Mo., and another sister, Roxie Phelps of Wichita.
