Services are pending for Edna Capshaw, 80, of Augusta, who died on Monday, June 21, ~ 1999.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is handling the arrangements.
Gustaf Tornquist
Gustaf E. “Gerald” Tornquist, 89, died Saturday, June 19, 1999 in Augusta.
His funeral will be Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at 10 a.m. at First Christian Church in Augusta, with Dr. Tom Davis officiating. Interment will be at Wichita Park Cemetery.
He was born April 2, 1910 in Iron Mountain, Mich, to Gustaf Tornquist and Hilma Peterson.
On July 3, 1936 in Rock Island, ILL., he married Velma Wilkinson.
He was a maintenance welder for Beech Aircraft.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Ellen Tornquist Evans.
He is survived by: wife, Velma Tornquist of Augusta; and son, Gerald Eugene Tornquist of Tucson, Ariz.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Augusta.
Hillside Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Powers
Kenneth A. “Kenny” Powers, 70, of El Dorado, died Friday, June 18, 1999 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1929 at
Augusta and had lived in Butler County most of his life.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado. Cremation has preceded the services.
Mr. Powers was the son of Charles Herbert and Bonnie Lucille (Jones) Powers.
On Dec. 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jenny Lea Thomas. She preceded him in death on Oct, 31, 1993. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Perk and Leonard Powers.
For several years, Mr. Powers lived in Alameda, Calif, and graduated from high school there. While living in California, he was a member and skated for the Roller Derby. During the Korean War, he served his country in the United States Army. In 1948, he returned to El Dorado. He was the retired owner and operator and mechanic at Yamaha’s Cycle Sports Center in El Dorado.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Motorcycle Association, and served as part president of the Kansas Motorcycle Association and the Jeeps Motorcycle Club, and the Venture Touring Society. For many years, he was the Wagon master for the Kansas Bunch.
He is survived by: sons, John H. Powers of El Dorado and Bobby Claybrook of Lawrenceville, N.J.; daughters, Debra A. Karst of El Dorado and Donna Krehbiel of McPherson; eight grandchildren and four grandchildren.
Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado is in charge of the arrangements.

Edgar D. Kessner, 96, of Augusta died May 19, 1999 at Lakepoinl Nursing Center.
Visitation will be Thursday,
May 20, 1999 from noon to 8 p.m. at Dunsford Funeral Home.
Service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 21, 1999 at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. John A.
Einem officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
Edgar was bom Sep. 27, 1902 in Emestville, Mo., to Henry Kessner and Bertha Oetting.
He was a graduate of Chillo-cothe Business College in Missouri.
On Jan. 23, 1917 he married Verna Kappelmann in Ernestville,
Mo.
He was an Augusta resident since 1930. He was affiliated with Christ Lutheran Chuch and was a charter member.
He was a retired engineer and field gauger for Cities Service pipeline.
He is survived by: wife, Verna; daughters and sons-in-law, Eugenia and Bob Nordman of Augusta,
Myradene and John Clark of Augusta and Phyllis and Loren Roberts of Shell Knob, Mo..; sister,
Helen Frickey of Concordia, Mo.; grandchildren, Chris Clark of Neosho, Mo.., Lyn Roberts of Wichita, Dennis Roberts and Scot Clark of Augusta, Troy Nordman of El Dorado, Ann Jackson and Shelly Myer of Augusta and Danielle Smith of Valley Center.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
