Edgar A. Bence
Edgar Arthur Bence, 75, died Saturday, June 19, 1999 in Wichita.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 22, 1999 from noon to 8 p.m. at Dunsford Funeral Home.
His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at Dunsford Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Hanson of Calvary Community Church of Andover officiating.
Interment will be at Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita.
He was born May 25, 1924 at Iowa City, Iowa, to Arthur E. Bence and Clara E. Beard.
He was a retired Boeing Wichita employee who is survived by: brothers, Robert
“Bob” Bence of Augusta and Mark F. Bence of Newton; one nephew and one niece.
A memorial has been established with Answers in Genesis, care of Dunsford Funeral Home, RO. Box 26, Augusta, KS 67010.
‘Snuffy’ Smith
Steven C. “Snuffy” Smith, 49 of Augusta died Aug. 30, 1999.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 and Friday, Sept. 3 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Newton.
A memorial service will be held there Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. Rev. David Smith will officiate.
He was preceded in death by his mother Yolanda Smith.
Surviving family members are father, Fred C. Smith, of Okla., son, Brandon Smith, of Newton, daughter, Marci R. Walton, of Towanda, brother, David Smith, of Sheridan, Ark. and one grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.
Dorothy Atkinson
Dorothy Alberta Atkinson, 72, Augusta, died Monday, July 26, 1999 at the Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at the Augusta First Church of God. Rev. Bill Jeffress will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born July 13, 1927 in Kansas City, Mo., as the daughter of Elmer Richard Grove and Hazel Alberta Rentschler Grove.
Mrs. Atkinson worked as a cable puller for Cessna Aircraft before her retirement.
She leaves a son, James Norman Atkinson of Louisburg; daughters Nancy Joe Williams of Overland Park, and Belle Scott of Kansas City, Mo.; brother Richard Alan Grove of Kansas City, Mo.; sister Helen Ruth Klemp of Gardner Lake, and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Memorials to the First Church of God Children’s Ministries,720 State, Augusta, 67010 are suggested.
The Hillside Funeral Home Augusta, 406 State, is in charge of arrangements.
Walter Rittle Jr.
Walter Charles Rittle Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Aug. 24,1999. He was a former youth minister in Augusta.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Sept. 1 at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
He was preceded in death by his father Walter Charles Rittle Sr. and a sister Trisha Cocade.
He is survived by his mother Rosalee Rittle of Augusta, brother Richard R. Rittle, niece Cassandra Rittle and nephew Richard Rittle II, all of Joplin, Mo.
Jesse Epperson
Jesse J. Epperson, 77, of Augusta, died Saturday, June 19, 1999.
His funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at Church of Christ in Augusta. Rev. Joe Slater will officiate. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Hillside Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born May 7, 1922 at
Boston, Ark. to James Jerome Epperson and Virgie Ann Hooper.
He married Velma Johnson on May 10, 1941 at Dutton, Ark.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from Jan. 16, 1946 to Jan. 15, 1949. Later, he was a Boeing machinist.
He is survived by: wife, Velma “Avis” Epperson of Augusta; sons, James A., Randy J. and Rodney C., all of Augusta; daughters, Carol Boswell of Derby, Jane Schwind of Clifty Ark., Joan Brinkman and Kandi Volkman, both of Augusta; sisters, Lillian Snodgrass of Springdale, Ark., Lorene Eaton of Witter, Ark., and Wilma Watkins of Lowell, Ark.; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
