Barbara J. Elliott Newman

Barbara J. Elliott Newman, 71, of Wichita, and formerly of Augusta, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999 in Wichita.
Visitation is today from 2-8 p.m. at Dunsford Chapel. Services will be Friday, July 30, 1999 at 1 p.m. at Dunsford Chapel with Farther Michael Baldwin of Vincent DePaul Catholic Church "officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born at Mulvane on Nov. 4, 1927 to Geoffrey Boucher and Ruby Boone. In 1948, she graduated from Susan B. Allen Nursing School. She worked with Butler County Community College to get a nursing program started in the 1960s. She retired after 23 years at Susan B. Allen Hospital, where she was Supervisor and Director of Nursing from 1961 to 1982. She was president of District 10, Nurses Association.
She was a former resident of both Augusta and El Dorado.
She is survived by: son, Michael Elliott of Houston; daughter, Betty Elliott Weltz of Andover; brothers Roily Boucher of Augusta and Milford Boucher of Latham; sister, Aileen Leben of Wichita; and grandchildren, Michael Weltz, Ryan Weltz, Elizabeth Weltz, Erin Elliott and Adam Elliott.
Memorials may be made to Butler County Community College School of Nursing Scholarship, Barbara Elliott Memorial.

Doan Franklin Batdorf

Former Augusta resident Doan Franklin Batdorf, 102, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999 at Lenexa.
Services will be Friday, July 30, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Dunsford Chapel with the Reverend Chuck Terrill of Haverhill Christian Church officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
Mr. Batdorf was born in Wellsville on Jan. 6, 1897 to John Franklin Batdorf and Lenora Marcy Delano. He married Laura Rachel Clayton on March 23, 1922 at Towanda.
During his 39 years at Mobil Refinery, he was a foreman of the riggers and pipe fitters. Mr. Batdorf retired in 1961. Augusta was his home from 1920 to 1978, when he and his wife moved to Lakeview Village Nursing Home in Lenexa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura in 1991, and a son, Stanley N. Batdorf.
He is survived by: son, Fred Batdorf of Augusta; daughter, Mary Lesuer of Leawood; sister, Amy Lenora Newman of Lamar, Colo.; grandchildren, Belinda Batdorf of Augusta, Anita Brush of Lee Summit, MO., Carl Warne of Andovei^^ and Gary Lesuer of Overland Park; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Haverhill Christian Church Building Fund.

Basil H. Giaretta

Former Augusta resident Basil “Rudy” H. Giaretta, 92, Grove, Okla., died July 16, 1999.
His funeral service was held July 19 at the Fredonia City Cemetery. Father Tom Scaletty officiated.
He was born April 5, 1907 in Goddard.
Mr. Giaretta worked as a salesman for department stores in Kansas before his retirement. He moved to Grove from Augusta in 1996.
On May 29, 1987, he and Elizabeth Heshmyer were united in marriage in Wichita. She survives.
He also leaves a son and a daughter, Rudy Giaretta and Mary Ann Turrise, both of Chicago, 111,; a sister, Alice Marie Wesley of Wichita, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ellis-Nichols Funeral Home in Grove, Okla.
