Msgr. Stewart

Monsignor George N. Stewert, 91, Wichita, who once pas-tored at St. James Catholic Church here, died Sunday, Oct. 17.
The vigil will be today, at 7:30 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Church at Spearville. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 in the church, with Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore being the principal celebrant. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.
He was born Nov. 5, 1907 in Great Bend to George N. and Clara L. Stewert.
He was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend August J. Schwertner, D.D. June 15, 1935 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita. On May 8, 1959 he was elevated to the rank of Domestic Prelate by Pope John XXIII and given title Rt. Rev. Monsignor.
He served as a pastor at the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wichita, then as pastor at St. James in Augusta, Sacred Heart in Pratt, Immaculate Conception in Clafin, St. John in Spearville, St. John in Meade, St. Patrick in Plains and St. Aloysius in Ransom. He had several positions in the Diocesan Tribunal and served on various diocesan commissions, councils and boards.
In 1985 he retired to Claflin where he resided until 1997 when he moved to the Priest’s Retirement Home at the Catholic Care Center in Wichita.
He is survived by sister Ilene Adams of Larned and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers Donald and Ralph.

Wanda L. Metcalf

Wanda L. Metcalf, 83, of Hutchinson, mother of Ernest Metcalf of Augusta, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999.
A private family graveside service was held today, Oct. 19 at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson.
She was born Oct. 21, 1915 in Hutchinson to to James C. and Laura Gaddis Darrow.
She was raised in Hutchinson, lived in Wichita from 1965 to 1998. She was a homemaker and she and her husband owned a garage and ran a portable skating rink in Turon and King-man.
On Oct. 30, 1934 she married Perry H. Metcalf in Salina, he preceded her in death in 1969.
She is also survived by a daughter Judith Sampson of Turon; a brother Phillip Darrow of Mission, Texas, seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and her husband.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno Co. or Turon EMT.

Ruth Eggen

Ruth Parrish Eggen, 73, of Salt Lake City, Utah died Thursday, Oct. 21.
Funeral services will take place in Salt Lake City.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Verlee Parrish, of Augusta and nieces and nephews, Ben and Kathy Parrish, of Augusta and Barry and Robin Parrish of Andover.

Catherine Dornbusch

Catherine Dornbusch, 85, of Augusta died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta with Rev. John A. Einem officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. with the family present this evening, Oct. 22, at the Dunsford Chapel in Augusta.
She was born Feb. 11, 1914 in Blanchardville, Wis., to Anton and Maggie Rohner. She married Jarke Brono Dornbusch on Aug. 28, 1933 in Rockford, Ill. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, worked for Load-craft and was a baker for Village Mart in Augusta.
She is survived by sons James Dornbusch of Wichita, Rodney K. Dornbusch of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Jack G. Dornbusch of Albertsville, Ala., daughter Betty Miller of Newaygo, Mich., 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Christ Lutheran Church or the National Kidney Foundation, Dialysis Research.
