George Chappell

George Chappell, 90, Augusta, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7,
2000, at the First United Methodist Church of Augusta. Rev.
Vern Bowers will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 11, 1909 in Mano, Mo., as the son of Orlena Stever Chappell and John Chappell.
He and Lola Belle Arnold were wed March 24, 1930 in Wellington. She preceded him in death May 17, 1999.
Mr. Chappell was a retired pipe fitting foreman at the former Mobil Oil refinery in Augusta.
He leaves two daughters, Betty Chappell McCleland of Plainville, and Barbara Chappell Ehret of Augsuta; a son-in-law, Merle Ehret; sister, Inez Douthitt of Barnesville, Ga., 13 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.

Mary E. Long

Mary E. Long, 79, Augusta, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000.
No local service is planned.
This retired teacher and Boeing worker leaves brother, James Sims Sr. of Atlanta, Ga.; and sister, Charlotte Harrison of Wichita.
Memorials to the American Legion Auxiliary of Augusta have been suggested.
Hillside Funeral Home East of Wichita was in charge of arrangements.

Velma L. Taylor

Velma L. Taylor, 89, Lawrence, formerly of Augusta, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence. Anetha Forpahl of Augusta is a niece.
Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, 1 to 8 p.m. at Dunsford Chapel; there will be no local service.
She was born Jan. 22, 1910, in Ongo, Mo., as the daughter of William Silas Adams and Maggie Ann Nelson Adams. She grew up in Augusta and was graduated from Augusta High School.
She was the wife of Robert C. Taylor who preceded her in death May 22, 1976.
After receiving a doctorate in English Literature from the University of Indiana, she taught in varied places, including colleges in Sacramento, Calif, and Miami, Florida.
Her last position was as Prof, of English Literature at Central Missouri State University, War-rensburg, Mo. She retired from CMSU in 1975 after many years on the faculty. Since 1995 she had made her home at Brandon Woods, Lawrence.
Prof. Taylor is survived by five nieces and two nephews.
Warren-McElwain, Lawrence, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Gilbert D. Cline

Retired Mobil Oil refinery crane operator Gilbert David Cline, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at his home on Custer Lane in Augusta.
His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Andover Assembly of God Church.
There will be a visitation from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta.
He is survived by his wife of the home Viola, son and daughter-in-law, Boyd and Judy Cline of Bartlesville, Okla., two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Jack P. Foster

Jack P. Foster, 82, Augusta, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000.
His funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Vern Bowers, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation is possible at Dunsford’s, 201 E. Fifth, until 8 o’clock this evening.
He was born Dec. 21, 1917 at Austin, Texas, as the son of Robert Thomas Foster and Nancy Leona Houser Foster.
On Nov. 11, 1966, he married Jocelyn Moore in Wichita. She survives.
Mr. Foster retired from Bel-ger-Cartage Steel and started his own steel erection company.
He was an army veteran of World War II and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Robert T. Foster of Wichita; two daughters, Jackie Smitherman of Wichita and Lois Mainz of Goddard; a stepdaughter, Dixie Curry of Augusta; 16 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
