Joseph J. Taggart

Joseph J. Taggart, 55, Leon, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at home.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at St. James Catholic Church in Augusta. Father Samuel Pinkerton will conduct the mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery of rural August;
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Jan.
18, at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
He was born Jan. 19, 1944 in Norristown, Pa., as the son of Donald Taggart and Margaret McCracken Taggart.
On Jan. 26, 1962, he married the former Rita Abell in a ceremony at Norristown. She survives.
Mr. Taggart worked as a business representative for Machinist Union District 70. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Taggart leaves sons, Joseph John Taggart of the Republic of Georgia and George W. Taggart of Topeka; daughters, Sheila Taggart of Bend, Ore., Sandra Taggart, Rita A. Jack, Barbara Amaya, all of Wichita, Delores Batta of Leon; brothers, Donald Taggart of Norristown, Pa., Robert Taggart of Hanover, Pa., and William Taggart of Bridgeport, Pa., and 11 grandchildren.
The Taggarts have hosted 12 exchange students and two foster children over the years.

The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of the services.

Tom A. Johnson

Tom A. Johnson, 81, Augusta, died Jan. 14, 2000, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral service was held today, Monday, Jan. 17, at the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta
chapel. Rev. Rick McNary officiated and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Potwin as the son of Charles Johnson and Rectina Adams Johnson.
He was married to Joanne Rose Johnson. She survives.
Mr. Johnson was a pipeline operator, retired from Kaneb Pipeline.
Besides his wife, Mr. Johnson leaves sons, Dennis Johnson of Norman, Okla., Timothy Johnson of Wichita, and Tom Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Susan Heaton of Norton and Sara June Tepe of Wichita, and two grandchildren.
Memorials have been designated to the Augusta Public Library, 1609 State, Augusta, KS. 67010.
Hillside Funeral Home Augusta -is in charge of arrangements.

Bessie M. White

Homemaker Bessie M. White, 79, Rose Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, in Rose Hill. She was a lifelong resident of Butler County.
A graveside service was held today, Jan. 17, at Douglass Cemetery, Douglass, with Pastor Tiger Moses, Assembly of God,. Leon, officiating.
Mrs. White was born in Walnut Township of Butler County, on Dec. 10, 1920, as the daughter of John Allen Cody and Ruth Banfil Cody.
In 1946 she married Jefferson W. White at El Dorado. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. White is survived by two sons, John White of Leon, and Richard White, living in Texas, and one daughter, Linda Spangler of Rose Hill. One son preceded his mother in death.
In addition, she leaves two sisters, Alice Hollingsworth, Wichita, and Hazel Mauk, Augusta; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home, Douglass, was in charge of the arrangements.
No memorial was named.
