Stephen Allen

Stephen M. Allen, 49, of rural Augusta, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000.
His funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Hillside Funeral Home Augusta. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He leaves a sister, Sherry Jones; grandmother, Lola Rippee, also of Augusta.
Memorials to Hospice Inc. have been suggested.

James Strait

Former Augustan James B. Strait, 83, a retired lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy supply corps, died Oct. 5, 1999.
He was a longtime resident of Bremerton, Wash.
He was the son of Jim and Golda Strait of Augusta.
He leaves a son, Ronald of Rochester, Wash.; a sister, LaVaughn Strait Headley of Seattle, Wash.
Strait was preceded in death by his wife Mildred in 1993.
Word of the death was received from Robert E. Moser of Wichita, an old friend, who missed Strait at a Navy reunion.

‘Tom’ Easley

Thomas Donald “Tom” Easley, 54, Augusta, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000.
His funeral will be 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 28, at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St., Wichita. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27.
Mr. Easley was a landlord and rancher.
He is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth Easley of the home; two sons, Glenn Smith of St. Louis, Mo., and David Smith of Guam; father, Thomas A. Easley of Derby; sister, Joan Stevens, Aiken, S.C., and two grandchildren.
Lakeview Funeral Home of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Cynthia Johnson

Cynthia Kay Johnson, 43, Wichita, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000. She was a former Augusta resident.
Rosary will be said 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East Chapel. Her funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Church of the Magdalen in Wichita.
She was bom Dec. 11, 1956, in Wichita as the daughter of David Austin Schaible and Mildred Louise Dreiling Schaible.
She is survived by a son, Michael Johnson of Wichita; a daughter, Angela Johnson of Stanwood, Wash.; a brother, Douglas Schaible of Wichita, and a sister, Jane Laham of Wichita.
A memorial has been established with Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center Campus, Pediatrics Department.

Velma Taylor

Former Augustan Velma Taylor, 89, Lawrence, died Jan. 6, 2000 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence.
She was born Jan. 22, 1910 in Ongo, Mo., as the daughter of William Silas Adams and Maggie Ann Nelson Adams.
She grew up in Augusta and graduated from Augusta High School.
She was the wife of Robert C. Taylor. He preceded her in death May 22, 1976.
Mrs. Taylor received a doctorate in English literature from the University of Indiana. She taught at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. She retired in 1975.
Mrs. Taylor leaves five nieces and two nephews.

Marjorie Ralston

Marjorie Gladys Ralston, 91, Augusta, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000 at the Augusta Medical Complex Long Term Care Unit.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 13, 1908 in Harveyville as the daughter of Elmer Leroy and Mary Rosa Anna (Henderson) Shaw.
On July 3, 1936, she married Marian Marsh (Hop) Ralston in Augusta. He preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1967.
Mrs. Ralston leaves two daughters, JoRetta Cooley and Marsha Clark, both of Augusta; two sisters, Mildred Amos and Virginia Glaves, both of El Dorado; a brother, Cecil Shaw of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Stephanie Maness, Alan Maier, Mike Maier, and Tony Cooley, all of Augusta; five great-grandchildren, Rebecca Maness, Chad Maness, Ashton Cooley, Mikay-la Cooley, and Sierra Cooley, all of Augusta, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Euince Shaw and Hazel Shaw; four brothers, Leonard, Vern, Cloyce, and Herman Shaw.
Mrs. Ralston was a homemaker and will be missed by family and friends.
