Gene Doyle Dies At AMCI
Walten “Gene" Doyle, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Doyle and his wife, Esther, operated the Homestead Inn in Augusta for around a year. She survives.
Saturday services are pending at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita.

Scip Vestring Dies At 57
Scip Vestring, 57. Andover, a past president and board chairman of Augusta Bank and Trust, died Tuesday at her home.
Her service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in El Dorado.
The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Memorials may be sent in care of the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado to the Metropolitan Medical Center Cancer Research and People Helping People.
She was born Aug. 13, 1925 in Fargo, N.D., to Julius and Helen Erickson Erickson.
She married Jim Vestring Feb. 14, 1975 in St. Paul, Minn.
He preceded her in death March 22, 1980.
She was president of the SDK Cosmetic Studios, manager of the Silver Valley Ranch.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in El Dorado; the President’s Commission for the Handicapped, and the board of directors for Goodwill Inc. of Wichita. She was the first woman appointed to the board of directors of Dayton-Hudson Corp. She also had served on the El Dorado board of the Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheri Schumeister of Minneapolis, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Terri Hamlin of Russell and Cathy LaForge of El Dorado, and two grandchildren.

Vandergriffs’ Daughter Dies
Darlene Keely, 49, Wichita, daughter of B. Onon and Thelma Vandergriff of Douglass, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Her service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Seltzer Springs United Methodist Church in Wichita. Rev. Harold Peck will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the church and the American Cancer Society.
She was born July 29, 1933 in Douglass to Tony and Thelma Vandergriff.
She married Merlin S. Keely Nov. 23, 1952 in Douglass. He survives.
Besides her parents and her husband, the school teacher leaves two daughters, Rhonda of Wichita and Rachelle of the home; brother, Burley O. Vandergriff II of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.

Father Dies In Wichita
Michael D. Greer, 29, El Dorado, father of Shanna Greer of Augusta, died Tuesday at Wesley Medical Center.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Rev. Randy Gauger will officiate and burial will be in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery there.
He was born Nov. 11, 1953 in El Dorado to Fred and Barbara Hodgen Greer.
Survivors include a fiancee, Linda Williams of El Dorado; a sister, Kathy Greer; a half brother, Scott Greer; a half sister, Stacy Greer, all of Everett, Wash.; his maternal grandmother, Ann Mouton of El Dorado; his paternal grandmother, Ora Cook of El Dorado; maternal great-grandmother, Rose McLean of El Dorado.

Saturday Rites For Gene Doyle
Walten Eugene Doyle, 53, Augusta, died Tuesday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Resthaven Funeral Home in Wichita. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Friday.
He was born May 8, 1929 in Joplin, Mo.
He married Esther Schmidt . Doyle in Wichita May 6, 1950. She survives.
He was a salesman before coming to Augusta to help his wife operate the Homestead Inn Restaurant a year ago.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael Doyle of Vallejo, Calif., and Ronald Doyle of Wichita; two daughters, Barbara Robinette of Mesa, Ariz., and Carolyn Neill of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; his mother, Maxine Doyle of Mesa; brothers, Charles Doyle of Mesa and Russell Doyle of Joplin; a sister, Elizabeth Plamann of Mesa, and three grandchildren.

Maud DeFore Dies At 100
Maud May DeFore, 100, 1217 Dearborn, died Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her service was at 1:30 p.m. today at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks officiated and burial was in the Atlanta cemetery.
She was born March 3, 1882 in Galena to Tom and Nancy Kinkaid Bridges.
She married John W. DeFore Nov. 27, 1901 in Winfield. He preceded her in death.
She was a Methodist.
Survivors include a son, J.W. DeFore of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Meta Lenz of Augusta; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter preceded her in death.
