Nellie Garnett Dies At AMCI
Nellie Bernice Garnett, 83,
Rose Hill, died Friday, Feb. 18, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her service was at 10:30 a.m.
Monday, Feb. 21, at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev.
Richard Axmann officiated.
Burial was at 2 p.m. Monday at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman.
She was born Feb. 14, 1900 in Kingman to John and Mary Travis Hawkins.
She married Thomas Garnett April 22, 1919. He preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Bill Garnett of Coffeyville; daughters, Virginia Lassman of Towanda, Thelma Futhey of Rose Hill, and Erma Lee Brown and Betty Womack, both of Wichita; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

C.F. Wakefield Dies Saturday
Carl F. Wakefield, 74, Atlan-ta, brother of Charles Wakefield of Augusta, died Saturday, Feb. 19, at a Winfield hospital.
His service was at 2:30 p.m. today at the Atlanta United Methodist Church. Rev. Lawn Sauer officiated and burial was in the Atlanta cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society.
He was born Oct. 5, 1908 in Clay Township in Butler County to Bartlett W. and Maggie Parsons Wakefield.
He married Merle Vesta Kennedy June 10, 1933 in Burden. She survives.
He was a retired owner of the Wakefield Grocery Store in Atlanta. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force and served in England and France with the 470th Air Service Group.
Other survivors include a sister, Audine Groom of Rock.

Hazel Brogan Dies At 89
Hazel Jean Ehret Brogan, 89, Lansing, Mich., died Feb. 20 at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services will be at the Cumberland Cemetery Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. Richard Bacon will officiate.
She was born March 9, 1893 in Pennsylvania to Tomas and Nancy Lyons Catton.
She married Don Ehret who died in 1956. Later she married Lester Brogan who preceded her in death in 1973.
Survivors include sons, Don Ehret of rural El Dorado, Rusty Ehret of Plano, Texas, Merle Ehret of Conchas, N.M., and Donny Gene Ehret of Wichita; a daughter, Opal Ross of El Dorado; a sister, Crystal Hendricks of Stockton, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Two sons and two daughters preceded her in death.

Ross Nelson Dies At 70
Ross M. Nelson, 70, 1106 Ohio, died Tuesday at his home.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Doyle B. Hopper will officiate and burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 25, 1912 in Garrison, Mo., to Alonze C. and Della Burkhart Nelson.
He married Barbara Ellen Tinkler Oct. 9, 1964 in Augusta. She survives.
He was a retired Mobil Oil refinery employee. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Craig of Wichita, Jack of Augusta and Lloyd of Alhambra, Calif.; a stepson, J.W. Peace, Berthoud, Colo.; brother, Gene Nelson of St. John; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

L.E. Buffum Dies At 101
Luranah E. Buffum, 101, rural El Dorado, died Tuesday at Mid-America Nursing Home there.
Her service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado. Rev. Duane Harms will officiate and burial will be at the Sutton Cemetery.
She was born June 20, 1881 in Towanda to C.R. and Marietta Slaven McCormick.
She married Leroy C. Buffum Nov. 2, 1902 in Augusta. He preceded her in death.
She had lived in the rural Augusta, Towanda and El Dorado areas all of her life.
She was a member of the Elm Creek Ladies Club, the Towanda First United Methodist Church and the Women's Relief Corps.
Survivors include a son, Bob Buffum of El Dorado; two daughters, Hazel Orton of Rosalia and Dorothy Hunn of El Dorado; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Opal Cox Dies In Illinois
Opal Hinshaw Cox, Arlington Heights Ill., formerly of Augusta, died there Monday.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Ahlgrim Funeral Home in Palatine, Ill.
She grew up in the Rose Hill area and lived with her husband, Clyde Cox, in Augusta for several years.
He is a commissioner with the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her husband, a niece, Olive Richey, and a nephew, Marvin Cox, both of Augusta.
Her husband would enjoy hearing from friends who may address cards and letters to him at 1411 S. Princeton, Arlington Heights, Ill., 60005.
