Stepfather Dies In Colorado
Wilbur Ernest Harder, 82, Woodland Park, Colo., stepfather of Norman Allen of Augusta, died Sunday in Canon City, Colo.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the LaCrosse, Kan., United Methodist Church.
He was born Aug. 21, 1901 in Pueblo, Colo., to Herman Julius and Mary Nelson Harder.
He married Mildred Smith Allen Aug. 27, 1948. She survives.
He was a carpenter and contractor.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in LaCrosse.
Other survivors include another stepson, Gene Allen of Anchorage, Alaska; stepdaughter, Venita Daniel of Penrose, Colo.; a brother, Herman Harder of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters, Angie Wagner of Bennington and Heidi Stickley of Cannon City, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Copeland Rites Are Pending
Joel “Jay” Copeland of Augusta has died of injuries suffered in an Oklahoma house explosion earlier this week.
His funeral arrangements are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
Jeanie Copeland, his wife who was also burned in the blast, remains a patient in the intensive care section of the Hillcrest Medical Center at Tulsa, Okla.
The explosion happened while the Copelands were painting inside a family home at Muldrow, Okla., and paint fumes were apparently ignited by the flame of a hot water heater.

M.L. Phillips Dies At 76
Madaline Lucille Phillips, 76, Augusta, formerly of Douglass, died Saturday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Latham Cemetery. Rev. Richard Ax-mann will officiate.
She was born Sept. 29, 1906 in Neilsville, Wis.. to Bront E. and
Mabel Gibson Ellis.
She was a retired school teacher.
Survivors include a son, John Phillips of Rogers, Ark.; a
daughter, Charlotte Cody of Augusta; a brother, Leland Ellis of Latham; two sisters, Kathryn Tedlock of Newport, Ore., and Geraldine Kent of Wichita, and five grandchildren.
The Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mother Dies In El Dorado
Cecilia E. Pardee, 93, El Dorado, mother of Mary Lou Howard of Augusta, died Friday at the Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
Her service was at 10 a.m. today at the St. John’s Catholic Church. Father Leroy Linnebur officiated and burial was in the Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
Memorials have been established with St. John’s Catholic Church and the Kansas Heart Association.
She was born Jan. 9, 1890 in Braddock, Pa., to Dan and Mary Haley McClure.
She married Nicholas James Pardee July 7, 1917 in Titusville, Pa. He preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1982.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the church’s Altar Society.
Survivors also include another daughter, Mary Elizabeth Courtwright of Topeka; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Rites Today For Copeland
Joel Connie Copeland, 38, 1201 Money, died at the Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., from injuries suffered during a Feb. 21 fire.
His service was at 2 p.m. today at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Schepis of the Grace Baptist Church of Wichita will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born May 25, 1944 in Vian, Okla., to Joel Albert and Clarious Duty Copeland.
He married Norma Jean Watson Jan. 1, 1981 in Wichita. She survives.
He was a former aircraft worker.
Other survivors include a son, Gene of Wichita; a stepson, Timmy Webber of the home; a daughter, Michelle of Wichita; a stepdaughter, Penny Webber of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Copeland of Augusta; brothers, Michael Copeland of Lake Stevens, Wash., and Henry Copeland of Wichita; sisters, Freda Fisher of Norwich and Delinda Copeland of Augusta.

Memorial Fund
A fund has been established with Prairie State Bank of Augusta for Norma Jean “Jeanie” Watson Copeland, who was critically burned in the Feb. 22 house explosion in Oklahoma. Her husband, Joel, died as result of burns he suffered.
Donations may be made to any teller at Prairie State.
Jeanie is an intensive care patient at the Hillcrest Medical
Center, 1120 S. Utica, Tulsa, Okla., 74104. She is expected to be there another six weeks and would appreciate cards from friends here.
She is the sister of Norman, Philip, Joe, and Bob Watson, Edna Cox, Ann Simon, Sharon Simon and Karen Pruitt, all of Augusta; Jim Watson of Wichita and Gail Pendlay of Colorado.
