Gladys D. Jones

Gladys D. Jones, 94, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000. She was the mother of Eldon Jones, Augusta.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta Chapel. Rev. Tom Davis of the First Christian Church will officiate, and interment will follow in the Douglass Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Thursday,Feb. 17, at Hillside Funeral Home.
She was born March 13, 1905, in Wichita, as the daughter John Young and Etta Neal Young.
Her mother died when Gladys was eight years old, and from then she was reared in the home by her uncle and aunt, Mr. &Mrs. Charles Neal.
She graduated from Benton High School in 1923, and continued her education at Friends University where she obtained her teaching degree.
She taught at the Walnut City School until her marriage.
On March 19, 1926, she married Elno Jones in Wichita. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1950.
She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter Delores, her sons Donald, Duane, and Keith, a sister Olive, and a brother Gerald.
She retired from Boeing Aircraft where she was employed for 19 years as a records clerk, After her retirement, she enjoyed her many friends, traveling, needlework, crafts, ceramics, and painting.
Mrs. Jones was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a member of the First Christian Church of Augusta.
In addition to her son, Eldon Jones, she is survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
Hillside Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Jean Hartley, 64, Augusta, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000.

Mildred Engel

Mildred A. Engel, 65, Augusta,' died Tuesday, May 16,2000.
Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta.
This retired city library clerk leaves her husband, James;‘son James Engel of Farmers Branch, Texas, and Jeffery Engel of Norman, Okla.; daughter, Vicky Swihart of Wichita, and four grandchildren.

She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hartley leaves daughters, Twyla Dowell of Augusta, Roxann Heit of Augusta, Vivian Harris of Winfield, and Leona Cowan of Colorado; a brother, Bob Evans of Kansas City, Kan., and nine grandchildren.

Marjorie Varner

Marjorie Varner, 73, Lyndon, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000 at Stormont-Vail Medical Center in Topeka.
Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church and burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
Visitation will be possible from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at the Feltner Funeral Home Chapel in Lyndon. Then family will receive friends from 7 to 8 that evening.
She was born Jan. 2, 1927 in Gordon as the daughter of Louis Arthur and Jessie Gladys Shaffer Bailey. She was a graduate of Augusta High School.
She received her bachelor and masters degree from Emporia State University. She taught math at Carbondale Junior High School and special education at Scranton Grade School. She also taught at Phelon School north of Lyndon early in her career.
On July 15, 1951, she and Ralph Varner were married in Winthrop, Wash.
Mrs. Varner was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Community Church, the Ladies Aide, and the Stitch & Chatter Club. She was a prize-winning seamstress with the Kansas Grange.
Memorials to the American Diabetes Association have been suggested.
