Jane M. Gentzler
Gentzler, Jane M., 79, died Saturday, July 8, 2000. Visitation with family 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Hillside Funeral Home Augusta; service 10 am. Tuesday, First Christian Church.
Mrs. Gentzler was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Reading, Penn.
Jane served four years in the U.S. Navy-Waves, and reached the rank of Yoeman first class. While serving in the Army, she met her husband, Marine PL Sgt Weldon R. Gentzler. They were married Jan. 19, 1945.
After being discharged from the Navy, Jane enrolled at Wichita State University, earning her B.S. degree in three years. She was employed at Socony, Beech Aircraft Corp. and Boeing Wichita. After raising her family, she assisted her husband in his chiropractic office.
She was an avid sports fan and followed her sons from Little League through college and continued to follow her 12 grandchildren. She was registered with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a den mother and den mother coach. She served many years as treasurer for the Boy Scout Troop. Her four sons reached the rank of Eagle Scout
Jane’s crafts consisted of ceramics, quilting and tole painting. She helped form the “Peacemaker Quilt Group” at the First Christian Church.
Jane’s goal in life was Christian education. She taught many years in Sunday school and Bible studies in both the Christian and Lutheran Churches. She attended Bible Study Fellowship and Christian Bible Fellowship in Wichita for 30 years as a student and leader. She was also a member of Gideon Auxiliary.
Preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle Saltzman, brothers, George II, who served in the Navy, Charles, who served in the Army Air Corps, and her twin brother, Lewis, who was killed in the “Battle of the Buldge” in World War II.
Survivors: husband, Weldon; sons, Larry of Baldwin City, Jerry of Augusta, David of Hermosa Beach,
Calif., Daniel of Andover. Memorials have been established with First Christian Church of Augusta and The Gideons.
Frances M. Smith
Frances M. Smith, 98, of Lakepoint Nursing Center of Augusta died Saturday, July 8, 2000.
Her graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Highland Cemetery, Winfield.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. tonight at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield.
She was born on Feb. 4, 1902 to John and Barbara SMITH (Schmidt)
Nachbor northeast of Mulvane. She was raised and attended rural schools in that area. *
On Dec. 31,1923 she married Charles W. Frazier who preceded her in death on April 27, 1939.
On Jan. 8, 1954 she married James A. Smith who preceded her in death on April 28, 1979.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters and a great-great-grand-daughter.
Mrs. Smith retired after 35 years as an operator with Southwestern Bell Telephone in Winfield. She moved to Winfield in 1944 from Moline moving to Augusta in 1985 and Lakepoint in 1991.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Peterson of Augusta, three grandchildren, Nancy Frazier of Haysville, John Peterson of Haysville, and Doug Peterson of Augusta. Also, one sister, Eunice Schweitzer of Derby, and six great-grandchildren and six great-great- grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to Lakepoint Nursing Center of Augusta,
Neoma N. Lackey
Retired school teacher Neoma N. Lackey, 91, Augusta, died Friday, July 7, 2000.
There will be no local service.
Visitation will tonight until 6 p.m. tonight at Hillside Funeral Home.
She is survived by her brother Dwayne Lackey, and a sister Arvada Lackey, both of Augusta.
The Hillside Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Maxine E. Daniels
Former Augusta area resident Maxine E. Daniels, 80, Wichita, died, Saturday, July 8, 2000.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Westlink Christian Church, Wichita. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado.’
In addition to her husband, Ed, Maxine leaves a son, Jim
Garritson, Wichita; two stepsons Craig, Wichita, and Rick Daniels, Branson, Mo.; four daughters, Sheryl Morris, Huntersville, NC, Donna Galyardt, Judy Crego, and Cindy White, all of Wichita; a stepdaughter, Deandra Soest, Wichita; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials to Shriner’s Hospital for Children and the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
The Broadway Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
