Arthur Kaufman



Arthur H. Kaufman, 93, retired Boeing Aircraft technician of Augusta, died Saturday, May 5, 2001.

His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 8
p.m. Wednesday, May 9, with family available from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Kaufman is survived by sons, John of Augusta, Rodney of Lawrence; daughter, Karen Rickards of Arlington, Texas; 8 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Dia-
betes Association.

Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.


Rena E. Johnson



Rena Ellen Johnson, 64, Towanda Elementary teacher and Wesley Medical Center medical aide of Towanda died Wednesday, May 9, 2001.

Her service will be at 1:3 0 p.m. Monday, May 14, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by husband, Wallace Johnson; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Tobey Johnson of El Dorado, Joel and Pam Johnson of Apple Valley, Minn.; daughters and son-in-law, Jocelyn Johnson of Wichita, Jennifer and Bill Leese of Kirkwood, Mo., Jessica and John Secrest of Budapest, Hungary; brother and sister-in-law, I’Rena and Richard Messenger of Chicago, 111.; 12 grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Holy Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society, and Hospice, Inc.

Hillside Funeral Home East in Wichita is in charge of arrangements.



Michael Stevens


Michael L. Stevens, 51, owner of Advanced Industrial Controls of Stillwell and graduate of Augusta High School, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001.

Services for Mr. Stevens were held at Memorial Chapel in Olathe today, May 11.

He was born May 6, 1950 in El Dorado.

He graduated from Kansas State Technology School in Salina.

Mr. Stevens is survived by wife, Sheridan; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Jennifer, Jeffrey and Cindy Jo, Matthew; daughter, Sarah; mother, Norma Stevens of Douglass; sister, Jan Scaffidi of Douglass; nephew, Aaron Scaffidi of Salina; three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by father, Glenn Stevens.


Eunice E. Knowles



Eunice Elizabeth Knowles, 83, of Augusta, former nurse, died Friday, May 25, 2001.

Her funeral services were held today, May 29, at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.

Mrs. Knowles was born in Augusta on Oct. 7, 1916, the first of two children to Nancy and Nellie (Fenton) Smith.

She graduated from the University of Kansas Nursing School in 1940 and began her nursing career at Wayne County Hospital in Dearborn, Mich. She was the charge nurse for the surgical wing for many years until her retirement.

Mrs. Knowles is survived by nieces and nephews, Alan, Nellie, Josie, Jessica, Katie and David Linderholm all of Augusta.

She received The Lord Jesus into her heart as a young child and served Him first in every area of her life. She would often say, “No need for nurses in heaven and that will be real retirement indeed!”

Her excellence in nursing and profound love for the Lord Jesus inspired others to follow her example.

You have reached your “real retirement” beloved aunt. We are missing you! Absent from the body, present with the Lord.


Amanda Carter


Amanda Marie Carter, 15, Augusta High School student, died Friday, June 15, 2001.

Her service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at First Assembly of God Church.

Ms. Carter is survived by parents, George and Edith (McNutt) Carter of Augusta; brother, Michael Fredrickson of Wichita; grandmothers, Jackie McNutt of Augusta, Bertha Hester of Greenville, S.C.; many aunts and uncles, cousins.

A memorial has been established with New Hope Christian Academy.
