Hazel Iva Burns
Hazel Iva Bums, 91, longtime resident of Augusta, died Sunday, Aug. 11 in Jacksonville, Fla. She was the widow of Dean C. Bums, who was an Augusta State Farm Insurance agent for almost 50 years.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 at the First Christian Church in Augusta.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on
Thursday, Aug. 15 at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1910 on a family farm near Potwin to Claude and Ressie Thomas. She attended Blue Mound School, where she traveled three miles, even in blizzards, and received an award for eight years of perfect attendance. She graduated from Bums High School, while ' working each morning before school at a local dairy.
She was a member of a large farm family of six sisters and one brother. She and her husband, Dean raised their family in Augusta, residing for many years at 218 Broadway and later at 2002 Prairie Lane, overlooking Augusta Lake. They were active in the community and members of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include: daughters, Marie White of Jacksonville, Fla., Judith McCrea of Lawrence, Deanna Mertes of Wichita; sisters, Claudine Goode of Charleston, S.C., Grace Bower of El Dorado; grandchildren: Stacey Lovelock of Tampa, Fla., Wendy Philcox of St. Augustine, Fla., Heather McCrea of Ridge, N.Y., Blair McCrea of Olathe; great-granddaughters, Anne and Emily Lovelock of Tampa, Fla., Liliana Krysco of Ridge, N.Y.; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Donations in her name can be made to the Kansas State School for the Deaf, Olathe, Kans.
George R. Strauch
George Raymond Strauch, 78, Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Augusta, died on Aug. 7, 2002.
His funeral services were held today, Aug. 16, at Broadway Christian Church in Wichita, with interment at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
He was born Dec. 19, 1923 in Fredonia, the son of Laura Pearl (Little page) and Conrad Lee Strauch.
He served in the U.S. Navy dur-
ing WWII in the Soloman Islands at Tolagi. On Dec. 23, 1944 he married Joan (Boxell) Ingold of Augusta.
He retired as district sales manager of the Santa Fe
Railroad after 43 years of service. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Hawley; brother, Phillip Lee Strauch.
Survivors include: wife, Joan, son, James Raymond Chandler; daughter, Carol Sue Collison of Denver, Colo.,, daughter and son-in-law, Glenda Lou and William Patterson of Shell Knob, Mo.; grandchildren and spouses, Shelly and Dennis Bellanti of Denver, Jeffery and Leslie Collison of Westminster, Colo., Jennifer and Tony Laurida of Flower Mound, Texas; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Broadway Christian
Church, or the church of your choice.

Johnny Lee McCune, 28, Augusta, Raytheon painter, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002.
His funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Augusta First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta.
Survivors include: wife, Stacy Hamlin of Augusta; son, Jaxson McCune of Augusta; daughters, Chelsea Rex of Wichita; Megan Matthews of Denver, Colo.; parents, Dave and Linda McCune of Augusta; brother, David McCune of Mustang, Okla.; grandparents; Rex and Elsie Shinkle, Gerald and Fern Timmons all of Augusta, L.D. and Dorothy McCune of Douglass; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
An education fund has been established for Jaxson McCune do Prairie State Bank, 512 State, Augusta.
Hillside Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Michael Kent Crowder, 45, Wichita, son of Eleanor Crowder of Augusta, died Saturday, Aug. 31,2002.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.
Other survivors include: father, Dr. H.D. Crowder of Wichita; brother, Dr. Richard Crowder of Wichita; sisters, Darlene Klassen of Wichita, Dawn McGlasson of Topeka.
Memorial has been established with Creative Community Living, 1500 E. 8th Ave., Winfield, 67156.
