Reed Moore

Reed Moore, 94, Augusta, retired operator for Mobil Oil Refinery, died Sunday, July 27, 2003.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Visitation will be possible from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.
He was born Dec. 23, 1908 to the late Frank and Nellie (Reed) Moore in Protection.
He graduated from Protection High School in 1928 and one year at Kansas State University.
He married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor, in Sept. 1929. They farmed south of Ashland before coming to Augusta where he found work at the refinery. He retired from Mobil Oil in 1970. Eleanor died in May 1973.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in Oct. 1942 where he received flight training as a liaison pilot for the field artillery. He was later given a battlefield commission. He served with the 339th Field Artillery, 88th Infantry Division in North Africa and Italy, receiving the following awards: Purple Heart, Air Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters, and the French Croix de Guerre. After discharge from the Army in Oct. 1945, he returned to work at the refinery.
He was well known in this community. He was a member of the First Christian Church, served as a member of the City Council and held several offices in the local Oilworkers Union. He was a member of the Elks, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was an avid golfer and member of the Augusta Country Club. He was an amateur radio operator with the call sign WOBVP, and operated his own television repair business from his home for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 44 years and two brothers.
Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Virginia, Thom and Nancy, all of Augusta;


Royce DeVaughan

Royce DeVaughan, 73, Douglass, retired welding and backhoe business owner, died Tuesday, July 28, 2003.
His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Miles Funeral Home in Winfield.
Survivors are: sons, Terry, Timmy; daughter, Twanna Delong; five brothers; two sisters; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Miles Funeral Home in Winfield has charge of the
arrangements.

David Lafferty

David Ray Lafferty, 36, Wichita, father of Dawn Hromek of Augusta, died July 29, 2003.
Service will be held at 6 p.m. today, July 31, at Advantage Funeral Services in Wichita.
Other survivors include: daughter, Lisa Klein; sisters, Shirley Cameron-Hancock and Cheryl Riley; four grandchildren.

Evelyn Macy

Evelyn F. Macy, 71, Wichita, homemaker, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003.
Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, both at Dunsford Chapel in Augusta.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 6, at the funeral home.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1932 in Augusta to Emmitt and Alta (Teal) Pouncey.
Survivors are: husband, Charles M. Macy, Sr. of Wichita; son, Charles M. Macy Jr. and wife, Lisa of Augusta; daughter, Victoria Hayden and husband, Bill of Augusta; grandchildren, Carmen Davidson, Crystal Turner, Nicole Taylor, Nathan Macy; great-grandson, Jordan Taylor.
Memorial established with Hospice of Kansas, 3241 E. Victor, Wichita, 67208.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta has charge of the arrangements.
