Brother Dies In El Dorado
Meryl N. Travnicek, 60, El Dorado, brother of Mildred Strong of Augusta, died Sunday at his home.
His service was at 11 a.m. today at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Roland Mc-Cluer officiated and burial was in the Blankinship Cemetery in Rosalia.
A memorial has been established with the OB Department at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
He was born Aug. 2, 1922 in Rosalia to Vincent and Marnahanzina Nelson Travnicek
He married Audrey H. McKinnis April 7, 1957 in El Dorado. She survives.
He was employed by Halliburton Service until 1961. He worked as a letter carrier for eight years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a custodian at the El Dorado school district.
He was in the army during World War II.
Other survivors include two sons, Randy Todd and Jeffrey Otto, both of El Dorado; daughters, Stephani Sue and Allison Renee, both at home; brothers, otto R. of El Dorado, Emmerson Paul of Rosalia; another sister, Agnes Hayes of Wichita, and a granddaughter.

Brother Dies In New Mexico
Francis A. Hess, 58, Albuquerque, N.M., brother of Norman Hess of Augusta, died Saturday, May 14.
His service was at 10 a.m. today at the Strong-Thorne Mortuary in Albuquerque. Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 2 p.m, Friday at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of those arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the heart fund.
He was born June 13, 1924 in Newkirk, Okla., to Albert and Goldie Hess.
He married Violet Mallory in Winfield Oct. 56, 1946. She survives.
He was a painting estimator for the City Painting Company of Albuquerque and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Other survivors include a son, Richard of Wichita; two daughters, Francene Brook of LaJunta, Colo., and Cinthia Scarth of Winfield, and four grandchildren.

Walter Duncan Dies At 72
Walter Lee Duncan, 72, Augusta, died Tuesday in Wichita.
His service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lakeview Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. John Hollis will officiate and burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery.
He was born July 7, 1910 in Centerton, Ark., to Elmer and Ida Todd Duncan.
He was a retired Cudahy Packing Co., employee.
He served in the army. Survivors include his sons, Loren, Ronnie, Johnny and a daughter, JoeAnn Gumm, all of Wichita; brothers, Chelmer of Oklahoma City, Okla., Denver of Gentry, Ark.; sisters, Melvina Gailey, Louise Francis, both of Hiwasse, Ark., Thelma Brown of Oklahoma and Hazel of California; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John Alley Dies At 85
John F. Alley, 85, Douglass, died this morning at Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Augusta Church of Christ. Bill McCormick will officiate. Burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
Alley was born Aug. 20, 1897, in Eureka Springs, Ark., to James and Rebecca Layne Alley. He was married Sept. 24, 1918, to Blanche Dennett in Wichita. She survives. They are life-long residents of the Douglass/Augusta area. He was a retired farmer and building contractor.
He was a member of the Augusta Church of Christ. He had also served as a deacon and elder for 19 years in the Douglass Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, survivors are a son, Lawrence of Douglass; a daughter, Lola Mae Pierson of Douglass; two sisters, Ethel Paul of Wichita and Lyda Alley of Wichita; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Augusta Church of Christ building fund.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mother Dies In Missouri
Cordelia E. Artwein, 75, Springfield, Mo., mother of Rosanne Cannady of Augusta, died May 22.
Her service will be Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Springfield.
Other survivors include her husband, Pete; a son, Bill Artwein of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
