Pearl Ewalt Dies At 81
Pearl Ewalt, 81, Sheridan, Ark., died Thursday following surgery at a Pine Bluff, Ark., hospital.
Her service was Friday at the Buie Funeral Home in Sheridan.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Emerson. She lived most of her life in and around the Atlanta area.
She married J.W. “Bill” Ewalt and moved to Augusta where she was the owner of the Tot Shop which specialized in infant clothing that she had made. She enjoyed sewing and made garments and quilts. She enjoyed making a garden and canning the vegetables and growing flowers and making floral arrangements.
She was president of the Sheridan Garden Club.
In Augusta she was a member of the Christian Church and the BPW Club.
Survivors include a son, Robert Joe “Bob” Ewalt; a sister, Mauree Nance and a nephew, Donald Nance of Sheridan, and several grandchildren.

L. Hatfield Dies At 79
Loris S. Hatfield, 79, of Arkansas City, a retired flour miller, died there Wednesday at the Arkansas City Memorial Hospital.
He was the brother of former Augustan, Dick Hatfield, now of Wichita.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rindt-Erdman-Odroyd Funeral Home in Arkansas City. The Rev. Jerald K. Hooley will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Arkansas City.
Loris was born in Caldwell on Feb. 28, 1904, the son of James A. and Bertha Ellen Hatfield. He married Violet Morton in Wellington on Oct. 11, 1934. She survives.
He worked as a flour miller for the Dixie Portland Co. for 33 years, retiring from there in 1967.
Other survivors are his two sons, Sterling and Elvin, both of Arkansas City; two daughters, Nancy Burton of Oveland Park and Joan Hatfield of Wichita; four brothers: Dick of Wichita, Marvin of Arkansas City, Gilbert of Wichita; Ernest of Fritch, Texas; three sisters, Peggy McCoy of Lake Jackson, Texas; Leona Chambers of Oklahoma City and Dorothy Kenney of Arkansas City and two granddaughters.

Rose Thompson of Caney, sister of Olive Goodknight of Augusta, died Friday at a hospital there.
Other survivors include a niece, Carol Weirich of
Augusta, and Cheryl and Cindy Moeller of Wichita.

Charlotte Smith Died At 79
Charlotte A. Smith, 79, Douglass, died Sunday.
There was no service.
She was a former antique dealer.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Shea of Wichita, and two sons, Jerry of Wichita and Tony of Van Buren, Ark.

Neva Godfrey Dies At 75
Neva Elizabeth Godfrey, 75, 1514 Cron, died yesterday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 21, 1907 in Mietta to George and Phoebe Hizey Watson.
She married George Godfrey Nov. 18, 1933 in Holton. He survives.
The homemaker is also survived by a daughter, Carol Tole, rural Leon; a sister, Edith Allen of Holton, and two grandchildren, Jodi and Wes Tole.
A memorial has been established with the Augusta Senior Services at the Augusta Senior Center.

G.C. Marts Dies At 90
Glenn C. Marts, 90, Wichita, brother of Valera Burr of Augusta, died Sunday at the Wesley Medical Center.
His service was today at the DeVorss Mortuary in Wichita. Dr. Roger Fredrickson officiated and burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church in Wichita.
He was born Dec. 2, 1892 in Anthony to Harrison and May Couch Marts.
He was a retired credit manager for Kansas Gas and Electric.
Other survivors include his wife, Billymae Marts of Wichita; a son, Eugene Marts
of Wichita; two other sisters, Arlin Alexander of Jewell, N.J., and Velma Thomason of Wichita; a stepson, Kenneth of Washington, D.C., and a step-dauhgter, Doris Everitt of Wichita.
