Maxine E. Frost
Maxine E. Frost, 84, Augusta, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Dunsford Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
Visitation will be possible from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Dunsford Chapel.
She was born on Jan. 20, 1919 in Augusta to Jay and Fern (Boucher) Reed. She was retired co-owner of Frost Market in Augusta, Pickrell Corner and Gordon. She also worked at Shafer’s Flower Shop and Snyder’s Flower Shop, both in Augusta.
Survivors are: daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Philip Courtwright of Augusta; grandchildren, Julie Renee Courtwright of Fayetteville, Ark., Amy and husband, Mark Adams of Augusta, Eric Wayne Courtwright of Philadelphia, Pa.; great-grandson, Devon
Thomas Culp; brothers, Lyle B. Reed of Wichita, Jerald and wife, Winnie Reed of Decatur, Ala.; numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ernest W. Frost and son, Frederick Jay Frost.
Memorials may be sent to the scholarship fund at the First United Methodist Church or the Augusta Public Library.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta has charge of the arrangements.

L. May Beard, 83, Augusta, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003.
Her service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Interment will follow in Lakeview Mausoleum in Wichita.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Carlson Funeral Home.
She was born on Aug. 27, 1920 in El Dorado, the daughter of Nathan and Louise (Walder) Gillis. She received her masters degree from Emporia State Teachers College in 1965. She was a
pioneer in the special education program for emotionally challenged children. She taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grades at Haverhill Elementary School, and also taught at Augusta’s Garfield Elementary School and junior high school.
Mrs. Beard was a member of Trumpets of Yahveh in Augusta and the Retired Teachers Association. She had made her home in Augusta since 1993, living for many years in the rural Atlanta community.
Her survivors are: daughters, Suzie VanTries of Augusta, Janie Suits of Dennard, Ark., Carol Lewis of Leon; brothers, Norman Gillis of Grand Rapids, Mich., Harold Gillis of Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Memorials in her memory may be made to the in-patient unit at The Vyne, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita and left at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
