Mary Ellen Berry

Mary Ellen (Doebler) Berry, 81, Douglass, retired credit interviewer at St. Joseph Hospital, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003.
Her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Douglass First Baptist Church.
Survivors ’ include: spouse, Jacob Berry of the home; daughters, Donna Myers of Sterling and Debbie Romans of Wichita; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Effie (Wells) Doebler and sisters, Jean and Martha.
Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, 67202.
Baker Funeral Home of Valley Center is handling the arrangements.

Ernest ‘Ernie’ Knowles

Ernest E. “Ernie” Knowles, 68, Goddard, retired Cobalt Boat employee, father of Ernie Knowles, Jr. of Augusta, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003.
His memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at the Fredonia Church of Christ.
Other survivors include: wife, Sandra “Sandy” Knowles of Goddard; son, Eddy Knowles of El Dorado; stepson, Jack Shumard of Wichita; step daughter, Tracie Shumard of Wichita, Andrea Weed of Pretty Prairie; sisters, Rene Benge of Fredonia, Maxine Davis of Arkansas; five grandchildren.
Advantage Funeral Services of Wichita has charge of the arrangements.

Erma Merritt

Erma “Lucille” Merritt, 82, Rose Hill, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Fey Funeral Home in St. Louis, Mo. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Survivors are: children, David Merritt, St. Louis; Connie Schirmer, St. Louis; Cindy White, Big Lake, Minn.; Carolyn Smith, Rose Hill; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by; parents, Carl and Leila May (Bivens) Daughenbaugh; husband, William Merritt.
Local arrangements by Headley Funeral Chapel of Augusta.

Lora Pennington, 86, Augusta, died today, Dec. 29, 2003.
Her services are pending with Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.

Lora M. Pennington, 86, Augusta, retired Criss Optical employee and artist, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003.
Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.
Visitation is possible from 1 to 8 p.m., 6 to 8 p.m. with family today. Dec. 30.
She was born Feb. 20, 1917 at Gordon to Daniel and Ina (Snodgrass) Elliott.
Survivors are son, P.R. “Dick” Pennington of Augusta; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Carole Pennington of Udall, Kim and Karen Pennington of Lancaster, Texas, Dana and Anne Pennington of Plattsmouth, Neb.; daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Dale Anderson of Augusta, Deanna and Glenn McClellan of Augusta, Durene and Edwin Butler of Udall; brother, Wayne Elliott of Augusta; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grand-child.
She was preceded in death by husband, Alfred; daughter, Dorinda; son, Drew.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta has charge of the arrangements.
