Gladys Parker
Gladys (Bartholomew) Parker, 100, Wichita, formerly of Augusta, died Saturday, July 24, 2004.
A private service family service will be held.
She was born on Feb. 21, 1904, in Bethany, Mo., the youngest of four children of C.H. and Lydia Bartholomew. The family moved to Wichita in 1910 where C.H. operated several businesses before establishing Bartholomew Furniture Company in Augusta in 1917. Gladys graduated from Wichita High School and attended Wichita
Business College and three years at Fairmont College. Her work at the Veterans Bureau transferred her to Seattle, Wash., where she met and married John T. Parker in 1932. She returned to Augusta in 1938, where she assisted her father in operating the furniture business and continued operation until 1949, when it was sold. She remained active in the business world in Augusta as office manager for a Wichita oil company. She was active in the Business and Professional Women's Club, Rebecca Lodge, and other various Augusta activities. She was proud to serve as the first female on the Augusta City Council in the early 1950’s. After retirement, Gladys and her sister, Dorothy, moved to Georgetown Retirement Apartments in Wichita, in 1985 and lived there until moving to Catholic Care Center in 1999.
Survivors include: son, Jack Parker and wife, Beverly of Derby; two grandchildren, Craig Parker and wife, Amy of Olathe, and Karen Radley and husband, Stephen III of Wichita; four great-grandchildren, Megan, Katy and Stephen Radley IV of Wichita, and Thomas Parker of Olathe.
A memorial has been established with Augusta First United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Downing & Lahey Mortuary East of Wichita.

George Pavelchak, Jr. 76, Beaumont, Texas, formerly of Augusta, died Sunday, July 25, 2004.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, in the Halls of Serenity Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Parkin Beaumont.
He was born on Sept. 1, 1927 in Whiting, Ind. to George and Mary Pavelchak.
He enlisted in the Navy and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Mobil Oil Refinery as operator with more than 30 years of service, having worked in the east Chicago plant, the Augusta refinery, and then to Beaumont. He was a loving husband and devoted father. At a young age he took great interest in playing the violin. He also made knives out of raw materials, such as steel and ivory in his workshop, and received great pleasure in giving them to friends and family.
He was also an avid stamp and coin collector.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 51 years, Irene Pavelchak of Beaumont, Texas; children, George Pavelchak III and his wife, Kim of Marina, Calif., Gail White and husband, Charlie of Wichita, Linda Pavelchak and her fiance, Steve Slaughter of Beaumont; sis-—
ter, Elaine Heckaman of Cedar Lake, Ind.; four grandchildren, George Pavelchak IV, Jeanette Pavelchak, Brenda McDonald and Steven Russell; niece, Dr. Ellen Feitz; and his faithful dog, Maxie.
Forest Lawn Funeral Home of Beaumont, Texas is handling the arrangements.
