Virgil Wilkins

Virgil M. Wilkins, 81, Neosho, Mo., formerly of Augusta, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004.
His funeral service was held today, Aug. 10, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Neosho. Graveside service was held at Restlawn Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Mr. Wilkins served fn the United States Army and the National Guard in Junction City.
He moved to Neosho in 1969 from Augusta, where he was head meat buyer for Weiss Markets, co-owner of Plaza IGA in Augusta. In Neosho, he was co-owner of Mr. Swiss, was associate Judge of Newton County in the early 1970s; a former deputy with the Newton County Sheriff's
Department, a Neosho Auxiliary policeman and a former bus driver for the Neosho School System.
He was an active member of the Silver Follies, a Mason and Shriner for more than 40 years; a former member of the Joplin Oriental Band and the Deadbeats; a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifelong member of the Christian Church.
Virgil and Muriel Sprague Mayer were married on June 5, 1949, and she survives.
Additional survivors, include a son, Bart Mayer and wife, Karol, Neosho; two grandsons, Scott Mayer and wife Kris, and Ken Mayer and wife, Cori; five great-grandchildren; brother, Homer "Bud" Wilkins of Augusta; and a sister, Mareline Ryan of Coriscana, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Clara Wilkins; brothers Duane, Ralph and Harry.
Contributions in memory of Mr. Wilkins may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children, in care of Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, Mo. 64850.
Services were under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.

Mazella Walters

Mazella Mae Walters, 95, Bums, homemaker, sister of Jocelyn Foster of Augusta, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Park Avenue Baptist Church in El Dorado.
Other survivors include: son, Carroll Walters of Burns; daughters, Vivian Ruckert of Hutchinson, Velda Hodges of Haysville; sister, Lucille Ambler of Valley Center; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial established with Park Avenue Baptist Church.
Kirby-Morris Funeral Home of El Dorado is handling the arrangements.

Viola Bagby

Viola (Hopkins) Bagby, 91, Augusta, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the First Christian 1 Church.
Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. this evening at Dunsford Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1912 in Chase County to Clarence E. and Myrtle (Wareham) Hopkins.
She taught music in many rural schools, worked at Boeing as “Rosie the Riveter,” during World War
II, gave organ and piano lessons to many students through the years.
Viola enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was the organist at the Augusta First Christian Church for 74 years.
Survivors include: sons, Gary and wife, Mary of Austin, Texas, David and wife, Sheryl of Wichita, Donald and wife, Rebecca of Rockport, Texas; Bonnie Wagner, a friend of the family; grandchildren, Mike and Allan Bagby of Austin, Texas, Angie Matson of Plainfield,
ILL., Darren and Tom Bagby of Wichita; three greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: husband, Wheeles; grandson, Brian; infant daughter; one brother and three sisters.
Memorial donations may be made to the Augusta First Christian Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
