"AL" Matlock

Alden A. “Al” Matlock, 67, Augusta, passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004.
Mr. Matlock was born in Neal on Dec. 27, 1936, the son of the late Jesse H. and Anna Ethel (Booth) Matlock. He was an oil patch worker retiring from Republic Supply in 1999.
On April 15, 1956, he married Fhirley Bartel. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004 at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Those attending should use the 12th Street entrance.
Visitation from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta. Friends are invited to Al’s home at 1600 Dearborn to greet family.
His survivors are: son, Mike and wife, Michelle of Augusta; daughters, Janet Spencer of Augusta, Donna Nutter and husband, Paul of
Topeka; brothers, Jake of Americus, Delbert of Crane, Texas; sisters, Eda Mitchell of Eureka, Doris Crowell of Emporia, Marilyn Clark of Augusta, Ann Denman of Duncanville, Texas, Carolyn Mason of Big Springs, Texas, Betty Griffith of Eureka;
grandchildren, Amber, Danni, Justin, Kari, Becky and Casey.
Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel of Augusta.

Melville L. Hopper

Melville L. Hopper, 84, Augusta, retired Mobil Oil Co. alkylation engineer, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Conway Springs Cemetery.
Visitation with family will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at Augusta First United Methodist Church.
His survivors are: wife, Ruth; daughter, Cyndy Hevel of Waverly; sisters, Velma Baker of Hutchinson, Blanche Witney of Wichita; six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Leo and Ragna Irene (Bell) Hopper; brother, Ralph Hopper, and his son, Stephen Hopper.
Memorials have been established with the Augusta First United Methodist Church and the Augusta Senior Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ebersole Mortuary of Conway Springs.
