Mabel I. Maddox
Mabel I. Maddox, 90, Winfield, mother of Martha Schwintz of Augusta, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Winfield.
Visitation today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Swisher -Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield.
Other survivors are: daughters, Marcilee Cook of Cassoday, Donna Reed of Winfield; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: husband, William C. “Bill” Maddox; brothers, Howard Townsend and infant Bernard Townsend; sisters, Marie Collier and Thelma Townsend.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Parkinson Foundation and WNMH Lifeline.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home of Winfield.

Philip Dean Brockus, 51, Augusta, administrative assistant for RCIL in El Dorado and former Jay Poore Construction framer, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, at Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. (MT) on
Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Goodland Cemetery in Goodland.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Hillside Funeral Home.
Survivors include: wife, Mary of Augusta; sons, Michael Brockus of Topeka, Pat Tagtmeyer of Portis; mother, Edna Brockus of Wichita; brothers, Bill Smith of Hillsboro, Ore., Jim Smith of Liberal; sister, Jeannine Harber of Wichita; mother-in-law, Melva Stephan of Goodland; five grandchildren; one greatgrandchild.
Arrangements are being handled by Hillside Funeral Home of Augusta.

James Warren Shigley, 45, Wichita, ophthalmology photographer,brother of Tim Shigley of Augusta, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 26, at Methodist Hospital, Wieff Chapel, in Houston, Texas.
Other survivors are: daughter, Nicole Shigley; brothers, Ed of Easley, S.C., Fred of Spring Hill, Ted of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Kay Ireland of Topeka.
Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home of Houston is handling the arrangements.
Raymond L. Shaffer Jr.
Raymond Lloyd Shaffer, Jr., 84, Wichita, father of former Augusta police chief Steve Shaffer, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Wichita. Burial immediately following the service at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East in Wichita.
Survivors are: children, Steve Shaffer of Wichita, Linda Shaffer of Gardner, Cindy and Scott Hand of Owasso, Okla., Craig and Lee Ann Childers of Wichita;
brother, John Shaffer of Wichita; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by son, Lloyd Wayne Shaffer, parents, one brother and six sisters.
Memorials have been established with Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy and Calvary United Methodist Church in Wichita.
Arrangements are under the directions of Downing & Lahey Mortuary East of Wichita.
