Leona Cecelia Schauf
Leona Cecelia (Girrens) Schauf, 87, Augusta, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2005.
Visitation 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m on Friday June 24, at St. James Catholic Church of Augusta, Interment
will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Mrs. Schauf was born in Schulte on Nov. 14, 1917, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Doffing) Girrens.
On April 1, 1937 she married Roman Schauf. She was a mother and dairy farmer, and had been an employee of the Augusta Daily Gazette for 20 years.
She was a member of St. James Parish for 64 years and she enjoyed gardening.
Most important to her were her kids, cows and church. She was especially
proud that all of her children received college degrees.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Roman Schauf; six loving children, James “Jim” Schauf of Thornton, Colo., John Schauf of Highland Ranch, Colo., Jaye Schauf of Augusta, Marilyn Vaughn of Denver, Colo., Janet “Jan” Placke and her husband, Don of Central City, Neb., Julie Critchfield and her husband, Craig of Augusta; brothers, Donald Girrens and Michael Girrens, both of Wichita; sisters, Cathryn Nilles of Aleppo, Gladys Abbott of Overland Park, Regina Robben of Mt. Hope, Lucille Mainz of St. Mark’s, Rosemary Olmstead of Prospect Heights, ILL.; 14 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence and Louis Girrens and a sister, Mary Louise Girrens.
Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel of Augusta.

Edna Mae Nesler, 87, Augusta, homemaker, died Saturday, June 18, 2005.
Her graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Cumberland Cemetery near Douglass.
Visitation from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m today at Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta.
Her survivors include: sons, Charles (Beverly), Dennis, of Augusta, Gerald (Mai) of Wichita;
daughters, Kathleen Northcutt of Wichita, Joyce Fessler (Gino) of Rose Hill,
Darlene Ingram (Larry) of, Augusta, and Shirley Menne (Eric) of Wichita;
numerous grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren.
