Freeman Dies
In Hutchinson
Rev. Everett Wayne Freeman, 93, a former pastor of the Leon Methodist church, died Aug. 19 at a Hutchinson hospital.
Services were Aug. 23 at the First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Wichita.
Memorials have been established with the Good Samaritan fund at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, or the church in Hutchinson.
Freeman was born Aug. 10, 1890, in Webster County, Miss. In 1914, he married Belle Giles, who died in May 1937. He married Esther Johnson Burton in October 1954. She died in May 1966.
After graduating from Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky., in theology and being ordained a Methodist preacher, Freeman came to Leon in 1915 for his first pastorate. He remained seven years. He was active in community affairs, organized a Boy Scout troop and aided William Sears in starting the Leon News.
All of his children were bom in Leon. Freeman also served the Harmony church, northwest of Leon.
Freeman returned to the Leon church several times, the last being in August 1980 for the church's centennial celebration.
Rev. Freeman was also minister in Peabody, McPherson, Wichita Trinity and Hutchinson UMC. He was superintendent of the Liberal-Dodge City, Hays and Concordia districts. He retired in 1956.
Following retirement, he served as interim pastor at the Salina and Marion churches, superintendent of the Topeka and Hutchinson districts and chaplain at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, where he made his home for the last several years.
Survivors are two daughters, Helen Farmer, Pratt; and May Belle Mahoney, Fredonia, N.Y.; and a son, Dr. Giles Freeman, Pratt; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Everett W. Freeman Jr., in 1944.
Brother Dies In El Dorado
James Harry Eastin, 85, Beaumont, brother of Pearl Elliott of Augusta, died Monday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
His service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Beaumont Christian Church. Rev. Herb Kreller will officiate and burial will be at the Beaumont Cemetery.
He was born May 26, 1898 in Arkansas City to James William and Effie Hardy Eastin.
He married Sadie Velma Young Feb. 27, 1917 in El Dorado. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 1980.
He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Woodmen of American.
Survivors include a son, Merle of Beaumont; daughters,
Fama Beeler of El Dorado, Betty Smith of Towanda; a brother, Roy, address unavailable; sisters, Essie Wright of El Dorado, Inez Bing of Latham, Oral Davis of Beaumont, Mabel Terrel of Leon, Mildred McDowell of Lincoln, Neb., eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Carlson Funeral Home of El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.

Claude Stanley Service Friday
Claude M. Stanley, 79, Douglass, died yesterday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
His service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Douglass. Rev. Coin Rees will officiate and burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Assoication.
He was born March 12, 1904 in Fort Scott to John O. and Maude Coatney Stanley.
He married Doris Frease Aug. 1, 1926 in Fort Scott. She survives.
This retired printer was a deacon of the First Christian Church for 10 years
Other survivors include a son, Gene M. Stanley of Wichita; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass is in charge of arrangements.
Former JuCo Dean Dies In Wyoming
Dr. Tilghman Aley, 61, Casper, Wyo., dean of the former El Dorado Junior College from 1955 to 1959, died Aug.
19.
Memorial services were Aug. 25 in Casper and burial was Aug. 23 in the Cedar Vale, Kan., cemetery.
He also served as assistant to the president at Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colo., and then as president of Casper College for 18 years before retiring in 1979.
A military historian, Dr. Aley was interested in the World War II era and had written several monographs for publication. He was the recipient of many awards including Distinguished Citizen Award of the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce, the Distinguished Alumni Award from Southwestern College in Winfield, the Award of Merit of the Kansas Association of Community Colleges.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline, and two daughters, Tammara Smith and Jennifer Aley, all of Casper.
