Alice L. Whitwell
Alice Lee Whitwell, 72, Augusta, passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2005.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at Central Christian Church in Wichita. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. A reception will follow at the family’s home, 16 Woodland Drive, Augusta.
Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m., with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on
Friday, Sept. 30, at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
Alice was born in Wichita on Nov. 2, 1932, the daughter of William Jennings Bryan Phelps and Mary Louise (Williams). She was a homemaker and was an active community volunteer. She enjoyed gardening, antiquing, and her grandchildren.
On Sept. 15, 1956 she married Frank Whitwell in Mt. Hope. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: son, Steve Whitwell and his wife, Emily of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Shelly Garcia and her husband, Charles of Augusta, and Amy Colombana and her
husband, Nat of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Shirley Walton and her husband, Dale of Augusta, Eleanor Hoskinson and her husband, Glen of Augusta, and Marilyn Patterson and her husband, Darrell of Salem, Ore.; grandchildren,
Matthew and Alison Whitwell; Amanda, Laura, Hannah, and Steven Garcia; Brian Colombana and his wife, Danissa; Kevin, Rachel, Camille, Ethan and
Aidan Colombana; greatgrandchild, Dylan Colombana; step greatgrandchild, Oceana Stolle.
Memorials to the Alice Whitwell Memorial Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel of Augusta.
Hazel L. Lanning
Hazel L. (Van Buskirk) Lanning, 89, Howard, homemaker, mother and mother-in-law of Kathy and Sam Fouts of Augusta, died on Wednesday, Oct. 5,2005.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.
Other survivors include: sons, Bill, Tom, and Larry Lanning, all of Howard, and Terry Lanning of Coffeyville; daughters, Wanda Clark of Conway Springs, Phyllis Friend of
Elk Falls, and Mary Wade of Eureka; sister, Eunice Townsley of Howard; 28 grandchildren; 39 greatgrandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, seven brothers, eight sisters and one grand- son,
A memorial has been established with the Howard Twilight Manor Activity Fund.
Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard has charge of the arrangements.
Patrick Ryan
A memorial service was held today. Sept. 29, at the First Baptist Church in Douglass for 36-year-old truck driver Patrick Michael Ryan of Douglass.
Ryan was killed in a truck accident on Kansas 39 Highway in Wilson County late Monday morning, Sept. 26.
He was taken to the Fredonia Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries and pronounced dead there, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.
Ryan, a Michigan native, was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He leaves a finance, Julie Jones of Douglass; three children, Amanda, 14, Morgan, 11, and Jason Patrick, 8; brothers Matthew, Michael, and Sean; sisters Shannon and Bobbi Jo; parents, Roger and Sadie Webster, Karen and Tom Ryan, all of Michigan.
Rev. Neal Alford officiated at today’s service in Douglass. A second service will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, in Michigan.
Clyde Robert Kraus
Clyde Robert Kraus, 91, Mulvane, retired pipe fitter and welder, formerly of Augusta, died on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in
McPherson. Interment was at McPherson Cemetery.
His survivors include: daughter, Debbie Williams; sons, William and Robert: step brothers, Don Kraus and Gene Kraus; three grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren.
Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home handled the arrangement
