Ilene E. Shanks

Ilene E. (Reser) Shanks, 84, Arkansas City, formerly of Augusta and Douglass, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2006.
Funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. on Monday, March 13, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City.
Her survivors include: sisters, Betty Seymour and Donna Reynolds, both of Wichita, and Pat Van Wormer of Sun City, Ariz.;
numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorials have been established with the South Central Kansas Regional
Medical Center Auxiliary and the First Baptist Church Funeral Dinner Committee.
Arrangements are being made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City.

Michael Roy Hazen

Michael Roy Hazen, 44, Oklahoma City, Okla., son of Richard and Judy Cochran-Hazen formerly of Douglass, died on Thursday, March 2, 2006.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 4, in Choctaw, Okla.
Other survivors include: brothers, Dennis Hazen and Chris Hazen, both of Oklahoma City; sister, Julie Hazen of Oklahoma City;
aunt and uncle, Henry and Jan Chin of Augusta; three nephews and four nieces.
Arrangements were handled by Howard-Harris Funeral Services in Oklahoma City.

Larry Bolinger

Larry Stark Bolinger, 56, North Branch, Minn., formerly of Augusta, died on Monday, March 6, 2006. See Tuesday, March 7 Gazette for full obit.
Funeral service was held yesterday in Minnesota. No local services are scheduled in Augusta. There will be a private burial at a later date.
Local arrangements by Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.

Margaret Peterson

Margaret Peterson, Fall River, retired teacher, formerly of Augusta, died on Friday, March 10, 2006.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Wichita.
She is survived by: son, Bill McCauley of Scottsdale, Ariz.;
brothers, Harold Morton and Edwin Morton, both of Sedan; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd R. Peterson and brother, Robert Morton.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Children’s Service League.
Koup Family Funeral Home of Emporia is handling the arrangements.

William L. Tower

William L. Tower, 81, Winfield, retired U.S. postal carrier,
brother-in-law of Bob Rush of Augusta, died on Sunday, March 12, 2006.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 15, with family greeting friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield.
He is also survived by his wife, Betty of Winfield Rest Haven.
A memorial has been established with Winfield Rest Haven Nursing Home.

Richard L. Mead

Richard L. Mead, 60, Augusta, died on Friday, March 10, 2006.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, rural Augusta.
His survivors include: wife, Karen of Kansas City, Mo.; father, James of Andover;
daughters, Paula Smith, Tonia Mead, and Jennifer Mead, all of Kansas City; brothers, James and Lawrence, both of Wichita;
sister, Teresa Hammon of Augusta; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by All Faith Funeral Services in Wichita.

Lewis W. Roberts

Lewis W. Roberts, 64 of Dickinson, Texas. Formerly of Rose Hill passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2006.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at Richland Cemetery, 210th and SW Indianola Road, Douglass.
Viewing from 1 to 8:30 p.m., with family to greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
Lewis was born in Wichita on Sept. 13, 1941, the son of Lewis T. and Mary Louise (Smith) Roberts.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator at Brown & Root Construction and served in the United States Navy.
He is survived by: sons, Rick of Tulsa, Okla., Rusty of Beggs, Okla, and George of Augusta;
daughters, Roxie Auld of Seminole, Okla., Ashlie Roberts and Brittany Roberts, both of Dickinson, Texas;
his mother, Louise Roberts of Augusta; brothers, Mike of Andover, David of Douglass, Danny of Coldspring, Texas, Bob of El Dorado; sister, Linda Clark of Augusta; seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis; brother, Jim; grandson, Blake Gowy-Auld.

Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
